EMA Dynamic Support/Resistance
Jul 7, 2020

The EMA Dynamic Support/Resistance indicator provides adaptive price levels by combining Exponential Moving Averages with Average True Range volatility to identify potential trend floors and ceilings.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying trend continuation or reversal points based on the relationship between price action and the calculated dynamic levels.
- Support Mode: When set to "Support", the tool plots a line below the EMA, acting as a potential zone for dip-buying or stop-loss placement during uptrends.
- Resistance Mode: When set to "Resistance", the tool plots a line above the EMA, serving as a target area or a zone to watch for potential selling pressure during downtrends.
- Crossovers: Price crossing the EMA line typically signifies a change in the short-term trend, while interactions with the DSR (Dynamic Support/Resistance) line indicate exhaustion or successful tests of volatility-adjusted levels.
Details
The script functions by first calculating a standard Exponential Moving Average (EMA) to establish the core trend direction. To make the support and resistance levels "dynamic" and responsive to market conditions, it incorporates the Average True Range (ATR).
The DSR line is calculated by taking the EMA value and either subtracting (for support) or adding (for resistance) a multiple of the ATR. This ensures that during periods of high volatility, the levels widen to avoid premature stop-outs, and during low volatility, they tighten to stay relevant to price action.
Settings
Main Settings
- EMA Length: Sets the lookback period for the core Exponential Moving Average calculation.
- ATR Length: Sets the lookback period for the Average True Range, which determines the volatility offset.
- Support/Resistance (SR): A dropdown menu to toggle whether the dynamic line is calculated as a Support level (below EMA) or a Resistance level (above EMA).
- SR Length: A multiplier for the ATR value. Increasing this value moves the DSR line further away from the EMA.
FAQ

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Yes, the indicator adapts to any timeframe since both the EMA and ATR calculations are relative to the bars visible on your current chart interval.
What is the difference between the EMA and the DSR line?
The EMA represents the average price trend, while the DSR line represents a volatility-adjusted boundary based on recent price swings (ATR), providing a "buffer" zone for price movement.
