The Trend Channels With Liquidity Breaks indicator is a visualization tool that identifies and plots support and resistance channels based on pivot highs and lows to help traders recognize dominant market trends and potential breakout points.

Usage

The indicator automatically detects trend channels by connecting historical pivot points. It creates dynamic zones that act as potential support and resistance.

  • Trend Identification: Use the parallel channel lines to determine the current trend direction. An upward-sloping channel indicates a bullish trend, while a downward-sloping channel indicates a bearish trend.
  • Support and Resistance: The upper and lower bands represent key supply and demand areas. Price interaction with these bands can signal potential reversals or trend continuations.
  • Liquidity Breaks: The script identifies breaks of the channel levels. When high volume is detected during a breach of the channel boundary, it can indicate a "liquidity break," suggesting strong buying or selling pressure that may lead to a sustained move.
  • Volume Integration: By enabling the Volume BG feature, users can visualize volume intensity within the channel bands. Darker or more intense shading highlights areas where significant trading activity occurred near the boundaries.

Details

The script utilizes pivot high and low logic (governed by the Length setting) to establish anchor points. Once these points are identified, it calculates the slope (dydx) and applies an ATR-based offset to create the channel width.

A unique feature of this tool is the volume normalization logic. It uses a Weighted Moving Average (WMA) of volume and a percentile rank to categorize market activity into Low, Medium, and High volume. This categorization helps filter standard price fluctuations from significant liquidity-driven breaks.

Settings

  • Length: Adjusts the lookback period for pivot point detection. Higher values result in wider, longer-term channels, while lower values detect shorter-term fluctuations.
  • Show Last Channel: When enabled, the script only displays the most recently formed channel on the chart to reduce visual clutter.
  • Wait for Break: A toggle to determine if the script should wait for a confirmed break before resetting the channel logic.
  • Extend Line: Extends the channel lines to the right of the current bar for future price projection.
  • Volume BG: Shades the channel zones based on detected volume scores, providing a visual representation of liquidity.
  • Colors: Customizable inputs for the top, center, and bottom channel lines.

FAQ

How do I interpret the dashed center line? The dashed line represents the channel's midpoint or equilibrium. It often acts as a secondary support or resistance level within the broader trend.

What does a "Liquidity Break" signify? A liquidity break occurs when price crosses a channel boundary accompanied by high volume, suggesting that the move is backed by significant market participation rather than a "fakeout."
