The Breakout Boxes indicator identifies key structural levels by detecting and aligning two consecutive pivots to form confirmation zones where potential breakouts are most likely to occur. This tool helps traders visualize market accumulation and distribution by monitoring volume within these zones and providing clear breakout signals upon structural violations.

Usage

The indicator functions by tracking market swing highs and lows. A Breakout Box is generated only when two consecutive pivots (highs or lows) align within a specific range defined by the Average True Range (ATR). This dual-pivot requirement ensures that the identified zone is a significant area of structural confluence.

  • Upper Boxes: Represent resistance levels formed by aligned swing highs. A price close above the upper box boundary triggers a "BreakUp" label, suggesting a potential bullish continuation.
  • Lower Boxes: Represent support levels formed by aligned swing lows. A price close below the lower box boundary triggers a "BreakDn" label, suggesting a potential bearish continuation.
  • Volume Analysis: Each box dynamically tracks the volume traded within its range. It segments this volume into bullish (buy) and bearish (sell) percentages. Users can use these ratios to gauge the strength of the consolidation before a breakout occurs. For example, high buy volume within an upper box may add conviction to an eventual bullish breakout.

Details

The script utilizes a configurable pivot detection length to identify market swings. The alignment logic uses a distance threshold based on a fraction of the ATR (0.2 * ATR) to determine if two pivots are "close enough" to form a box. This ensures that the structural zones adapt to the current volatility of the asset and timeframe.

The volume calculation is performed in real-time as long as the box remains active. Once a new pivot pair forms, the script automatically resets to the most recent structure, keeping the chart clean and focused on relevant data.

Settings

  • Pivot Detection Length: The number of bars required to confirm a swing high or low.
  • Upper Box Width: Adjusts the vertical thickness of the upper resistance boxes, scaled by ATR.
  • Upper Box Color: Customizes the color of the resistance boxes and the associated "BreakUp" signals.
  • Lower Box Width: Adjusts the vertical thickness of the lower support boxes, scaled by ATR.
  • Lower Box Color: Customizes the color of the support boxes and the associated "BreakDn" signals.

FAQ

How do I use the volume information inside the boxes? The volume information displays the total volume and the percentage of buy/sell volume since the box was formed. High volume with a bias toward one side can indicate accumulation or distribution prior to a breakout.

Why are boxes disappearing or resetting? The indicator is designed to focus on the most recent structural alignment. When a new pair of aligned pivots is detected, the script closes the previous box to ensure the most relevant levels are highlighted.
