# 8am Road Map Zone

8am Road Map Zone is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

The 8am Road Map Zone captures the 8:00-8:15 pre-market range and grades the session against it once, from the close of the first bar at or after 9:30: green above the range high, red below the low, grey (neutral) inside. High, low, and midpoint lines extend through the day, giving open-focused traders an instant bias read and levels to trade against.

**8am Road Map Zone** builds a session bias from fifteen minutes of pre-market trade. It records the high and low printed between 8:00 and 8:15 EST, holds them as a greyed-out zone while the pre-market runs, then grades the session once against those boundaries, from the close of the first bar at or after 9:30, and keeps that read for the day: [opening-range trading](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/opening-range-and-orb/) anchored before the bell instead of after it. High, low, and midpoint lines extend across the chart for the rest of the day.

## How to Trade the 8am Road Map Zone?

- **Green zone**: the 9:30 bar closed above the opening high, bullish bias for the session.
- **Red zone**: the 9:30 bar closed below the opening low, bearish bias.
- **Grey zone**: the 9:30 bar closed between the boundaries. Neutral, consolidating conditions.
- **Midpoint line**: a secondary reference that often behaves as intraday support or resistance.

The colored state plus the on-chart label answers the question every open-driven trader asks first: which side of the early range did the session open on? The extended levels then work like an evolving [support and resistance zone](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/s-r-zone/). Watch for clean breaks of the OR High or OR Low to confirm direction, or fade trips back inside for mean-reversion plays.

## 8am Road Map Zone Settings

- **OR Session** (default 0800-0815): the window whose high and low define the road map.
- **Timezone** (default America/New_York): the clock used for the OR session and the 9:30 open check.

### Why measure 8:00-8:15 instead of the market open?

The default window samples pre-market conviction before 9:30 volatility hits, so the levels already exist when the bell rings. The OR Session input lets you move or widen the window if your market runs on a different rhythm.
