Dynamic Support & Resistance
Sep 13, 2018

The Dynamic Support & Resistance indicator identifies trending market conditions and highlights high-probability pullback zones by analyzing the alignment of three Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs).
Usage
The tool is designed to identify "value zones" where price may find support or resistance during a strong trend. It requires three EMAs to be in perfect sequential order to define a trend:
- Bullish Trend: A bullish trend is identified when the short-term EMA (20) is above the medium-term EMA (50), and the medium-term EMA is above the long-term EMA (200). In this scenario, the area between the 20 and 50 EMAs is highlighted in green, acting as a dynamic support zone.
- Bearish Trend: A bearish trend is identified when the short-term EMA (20) is below the medium-term EMA (50), and the medium-term EMA is below the long-term EMA (200). The area between the 20 and 50 EMAs is highlighted in red, acting as a dynamic resistance zone.
- Consolidation: If the EMAs are not in sequential order, the zone remains uncolored, signaling a lack of a clear trend or a period of consolidation.
Traders often use these highlighted zones to look for entry opportunities on retracements back to the EMA cloud while the primary trend remains intact.
Details
The script utilizes standard Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) to calculate trend direction. By using three distinct timeframes—Long-term, Medium-term (DSR 1), and Short-term (DSR 2)—it filters out minor fluctuations and focuses on established market momentum. The long-term EMA (default 200) serves as the primary trend filter, while the space between the two shorter EMAs serves as the dynamic zone.
Settings
- Longterm EMA Length: Sets the period for the primary trend filter (Default: 200).
- DSR 1 EMA Length: Sets the period for the medium-term EMA, forming the outer boundary of the dynamic zone (Default: 50).
- DSR 2 EMA Length: Sets the period for the short-term EMA, forming the inner boundary of the dynamic zone (Default: 20).
