The MAS: Multiple Moving Average indicator provides a color-coded trend visualization system designed to help traders identify the initiation and strength of uptrends through ribbon-style moving average crossovers. By layering multiple Simple Moving Averages (SMAs), the tool simplifies trend analysis into distinct visual zones that highlight short-term momentum and long-term bullish structural shifts.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market momentum based on the interaction of five distinct moving averages. The tool employs a visual hierarchy to determine trend stages:

  • Initial Uptrend: When the 5 SMA crosses above the 10 SMA, a specific highlighted area appears (typically yellow or light blue), signaling the earliest stage of a potential bullish move.
  • Confirmed Momentum: When the 10 SMA moves above the 20 SMA, a green ribbon is formed, indicating that the uptrend is gaining strength.
  • Strong Uptrend: When the 20 SMA remains above the 50 SMA, the indicator displays a cyan/light blue ribbon, suggesting a robust trend is in progress.
  • Long-Term Structural Bias: The relationship between the 50 SMA (blue line) and the 200 SMA (red line) serves as a macro filter. If the 50 SMA is above the 200 SMA, the market is considered to be in a strong bullish phase.
  • Pivot Tracking: The 20 SMA is plotted as a series of dots (circles), changing color to reflect the immediate relationship between the 10 and 20 SMAs, serving as a dynamic support or resistance marker.

Details

The MAS indicator is constructed using five Simple Moving Averages (SMA): 5, 10, 20, 50, and 200 periods. The script utilizes the fill() function to create ribbons between these averages, which provides a more intuitive visual representation of trend exhaustion or acceleration compared to standard line plots.

Execution logic includes built-in alerts for the 10 and 20 SMA crossover. A "Bullish MA Cross" occurs when the 10 SMA crosses above the 20 SMA, while a "Bearish MA Cross" occurs when it crosses below. These crossovers are often used by traders to identify shifts in medium-term momentum.

FAQ

How do I identify a strong bullish trend with this indicator?
A strong bullish trend is identified when the ribbons are stacked (SMA 5 > 10 > 20 > 50) and the 50 SMA is positioned above the 200 SMA.

What do the green and red dots on the chart represent?
The dots represent the 20-period SMA. They change color based on the momentum between the 10 and 20 SMAs, signaling whether the medium-term trend is currently bullish or bearish.
