Market Structure Trend Targets
Dec 30, 2024

The Market Structure Trend Targets indicator tracks trend direction and identifies continuation points by highlighting significant breaks in market structure levels. It provides a visual framework for understanding trend strength and potential exhaustion through sequential breakout tracking and dynamic risk levels.
Usage
The Usage section details how the indicator identifies market transitions and trend continuations.
- Breakout Markers: The tool identifies key points where the price breaks above a previous high (uptrend) or below a previous low (downtrend). The initial breakout is marked with the entry price and a triangle icon. Subsequent breaks are numbered (1, 2, 3...) to show trend progression.
- Trend Progression Tracking: Users can choose to display sequential numbers or the percentage change from the initial breakout point. This helps in gauging momentum and how far the price has extended from the trend origin.
- Trailing Stop Loss: A dynamic level is plotted on the chart (below price for uptrends, above for downtrends). This level serves as a risk management boundary; a breach of this line indicates a potential trend reversal or reset.
- Mean Reversion Signals: Diamond icons (◈) appear when price momentarily breaches the trailing stop and then recovers. For example, in an uptrend, if price falls below the stop but then closes back above it, a diamond suggests a potential continuation or mean reversion opportunity.
- Trend Background: The candle colors and chart shading update to reflect the current market bias, allowing for quick identification of the prevailing trend.
Details
The indicator utilizes pivot highs and lows to establish structural boundaries. By calculating volatility-adjusted trend lines based on median prices and historical price ranges, it creates a robust trailing stop. The logic differentiates between the "zero break" (trend start) and subsequent structural breaks to help traders distinguish between a new trend and an overextended one.
Settings
- Length: Determines the lookback period for identifying pivot highs and lows used for breakout triggers.
- Display %: Toggles between showing sequential breakout counts or the percentage return from the initial trend entry.
- Display Trailing Stop: Enables or disables the visibility of the dynamic stop loss level and mean reversion signals.
- Colors (+ / -): Customizes the colors used for bullish (uptrend) and bearish (downtrend) visual elements.
FAQ
How do I use the breakout numbers?
The numbers represent sequential breaks of market structure. A "1" indicates the first break after the trend has been established, and higher numbers suggest a maturing trend that may eventually face exhaustion.
What do the diamond icons represent?
The diamonds are mean reversion signals. They appear when price tests the trailing stop level and successfully holds or reclaims it, suggesting the trend remains intact despite a temporary pullback.
