The Moving Average Crossover 0001 indicator identifies trend reversals and potential entry points by analyzing the interactions between two exponential moving averages and one simple moving average across different time horizons.

Usage

The Moving Average Crossover 0001 can be used as a trend-following system to capture momentum shifts in the market. Traders can observe the crossovers between the fast EMA and the slower SMA to determine potential trade directions, while the secondary EMA acts as a trend filter.

  • Long Entry: Occurs when the 14-period EMA crosses the 56-period SMA while the 14-period EMA is also positioned above the 28-period EMA.
  • Short Entry: Occurs when the 14-period EMA crosses the 56-period SMA while the 14-period EMA is positioned below the 28-period EMA.
  • Exit Strategy: The strategy includes built-in profit targets and stop-loss levels to manage risk once a position is opened.

The indicator is particularly useful for identifying established trends and avoiding whipsaws by requiring multiple moving average conditions to align before a signal is generated.

Details

The script utilizes three distinct moving averages to define trend momentum:

  1. Fast EMA (14-period): Responds quickly to price changes and serves as the primary signal line.
  2. Medium EMA (28-period): Acts as a directional filter to ensure the fast trend is moving in a consistent direction relative to the medium term.
  3. Slow SMA (56-period): Represents the long-term trend baseline.

The logic relies on the "Golden Cross" or "Death Cross" principle, specifically looking for when the fast price action (14 EMA) intersects with the long-term trend (56 SMA). By adding the 28 EMA as a conditional check, the script filters out signals where the short-term momentum hasn't yet decoupled from the medium-term average. The script also features a date range filter, allowing users to backtest the strategy over specific historical periods.

FAQ

How do I interpret the three lines on the chart? The green line represents the 14-period EMA, the red line represents the 28-period EMA, and the blue line represents the 56-period SMA. Signals are generated when these lines interact according to the crossover logic.

Can I change the moving average periods? In this specific version, the periods are fixed at 14, 28, and 56 to maintain the integrity of the original design, though the code can be modified for different preferences.
