The Volume Spike Levels indicator identifies abnormal volume candles, visualizes their price ranges as zones or levels, and tracks whether price confirms a breakout from these ranges.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying institutional activity or high-liquidity events and monitoring the subsequent price reaction. When a volume spike occurs, the candle's range is treated as a significant supply or demand zone.

  • Confirmed Direction Mode: The script waits for price to break out of the volume candle's high or low within a specific bar window. If price breaks above, it signals a "VOL BUY"; if below, a "VOL SELL." This is useful for identifying volume absorption or trend continuation.
  • Neutral Fast Mode: Markers appear immediately on the volume spike candle. This allows traders to manually interpret the price action around the newly formed levels.
  • Level Interaction: Traders can use the drawn boxes or horizontal lines as reaction zones for scalping or intraday entries. The strength of the volume (Weak, Medium, Strong) helps prioritize which levels are likely to hold or cause significant volatility.

Details

The script calculates volume spikes by comparing current volume against a Simple Moving Average (SMA). It employs a "Graded" system where users can define different multipliers for weak, medium, and strong spikes, allowing for a more nuanced view of market activity.

The confirmation logic is time-sensitive. If the price does not break out of the volume candle range within the user-defined "Confirmation Window," the signal is discarded. This ensures that only relevant, immediate reactions to high volume are considered. Users can choose between "Wick," "Body," or "Close" for breakout confirmation, allowing for varying degrees of sensitivity to market volatility.

  • Number of Recent Spikes to Keep: Limits the amount of historical zones displayed on the chart.
  • Box / Line Length, Bars: The horizontal length of the drawn levels.
  • Extend Lines Right: Extends horizontal levels indefinitely to the right of the chart.

FAQ

How do I adjust the indicator for different assets? You should tune the Volume Multipliers based on the specific asset and timeframe. Higher volatility assets may require higher multipliers to filter out market noise and highlight only significant spikes.

What is the difference between Neutral Fast and Confirmed Direction? Neutral Fast highlights the volume spike as soon as the candle closes, while Confirmed Direction only provides a signal once the price successfully breaks out of that candle's high or low range.
