Volume Based

The Volume Profile - AOC indicator provides a comprehensive multi-period volume analysis tool designed to visualize trading activity across specific market sessions and timeframes. By identifying the most traded price levels (Point of Control) and volume distribution, traders can pinpoint institutional interest and significant support or resistance zones.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze market structure. The indicator automatically segments volume data into distinct profiles based on user-selected timeframes.

  • Intraday Session Analysis: Traders can enable specific sessions like Tokyo, London, or New York to see where volume was concentrated during those specific trading hours. This is useful for identifying "session highs/lows" and where the Point of Control (POC) resides for that specific geographic market.
  • Macro Volume Profiling: By enabling Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Semiannual profiles, the tool provides a broader view of market value. For example, a Weekly POC can act as a magnet or a significant breakout level for the following week.
  • Visual Interpretation: The indicator offers two bar modes. Mode 1 provides a standard distribution, while Mode 2 offers an alternative visual weighting. Up-volume and down-volume are color-coded within each profile to show the internal delta of the session.

Details

The script executes a granular volume calculation by collecting lower timeframe data and distributing it into "zones" or bins based on the chosen resolution.

  • Point of Control (POC): The indicator calculates the price level with the highest total volume (buy + sell) for the duration of the profile and highlights it with a horizontal line.
  • Dynamic Range Tracking: For every active session, the script tracks the high and low prices in real-time to determine the vertical boundaries of the profile.
  • Resolution and Refinement: The resolution setting determines how many price "bins" the volume is divided into. A higher resolution provides a more detailed, jagged profile, while a lower resolution provides a smoother, more generalized view of the volume distribution.

Settings

  • Sessions Group
    • Number of Sessions per Type: Controls how many historical profiles of each enabled type are drawn on the chart.
    • Show Tokyo/London/New York Session: Toggles the display of specific intraday geographic sessions.
    • Show Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/Semiannual Profile: Toggles the display of higher timeframe volume profiles.
  • Display Group
    • Show Session Labels: Toggles the text labels that identify each session period on the chart.
    • Resolution: Adjusts the number of horizontal bars within each profile. Higher values increase detail but require more processing.
    • Bar Mode: Switches between different visual calculation methods (Mode 1 or Mode 2) for displaying the bars.
    • Up Volume / Down Volume: Customizes the colors for the bullish and bearish components of the volume profiles.
    • POC: Sets the color for the Point of Control line.

FAQ

What is the Point of Control (POC) in this indicator? The POC is the price level within a session that recorded the highest amount of trading volume. It often acts as a significant level where the market found the most "fair value" during that period.

Why are some profiles not appearing on my chart? If the Resolution setting is too high or the "Number of Sessions" is set to a large value, the script may hit platform limits for drawing objects. Reducing the resolution or the number of visible sessions will usually resolve this.
