The Triple Moving Average Heatmap indicator provides a visual representation of trend momentum and direction by analyzing the relationship between three distinct moving averages. This tool simplifies trend identification by projecting a stable heatmap that signals whether the market is in a bullish or bearish alignment.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying trend orientation through the alignment of three moving averages (MA1, MA2, and MA3). When the averages are stacked in ascending order (Fast > Medium > Slow), the heatmap turns green, indicating a bullish trend. Conversely, when they are stacked in descending order (Fast < Medium < Slow), the heatmap turns red, indicating a bearish trend.

Because the script uses a "since" logic based on the most recent crossover, the heatmap remains stable between signals rather than flickering during minor price fluctuations. This makes it an ideal tool for trend following and identifying areas of high-probability momentum.

Details

The script evaluates three moving averages simultaneously to determine the market state. It specifically looks for a "perfect" alignment:

  • Bullish Alignment: MA 1 > MA 2 AND MA 1 > MA 3 AND MA 2 > MA 3.
  • Bearish Alignment: MA 1 < MA 2 AND MA 1 < MA 3 AND MA 2 < MA 3.

The logic utilizes ta.barssince to track the distance from the last valid triple crossover. This implementation ensures that the heatmap color persists until the opposite condition is met, preventing the "rolling" effect often found in standard crossover indicators. The script includes thirteen different moving average types, including advanced variations like HullMA, TEMA, and CTI, allowing for high customization depending on the asset being traded.

Moving Average Configurations

  • Source: Determines the price data used for all moving average calculations (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
  • Type of MA 1/2/3: Allows selection from 13 different smoothing algorithms, including SMA, EMA, WMA, VWMA, HullMA, DEMA, TEMA, and more.
  • MA 1/2/3 Length: Sets the lookback period for each of the three moving averages. Traditionally, MA 1 is the fastest (shortest length) and MA 3 is the slowest (longest length).

FAQ

How do I interpret the heatmap colors?

A green heatmap indicates that the three moving averages are in a bullish stack (Fast > Medium > Slow), suggesting upward momentum. A red heatmap indicates a bearish stack (Fast < Medium < Slow), suggesting downward momentum.

Can I use different types of moving averages together?

Yes, the indicator allows you to mix and match different MA types (e.g., an EMA for the fast line and an SMA for the slow line) to better fit your specific trading strategy.
