The Delorean EMA's indicator provides a specialized set of five exponential moving averages designed to identify trend direction, institutional support/resistance, and short-term momentum shifts.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze market trends and price action. Traders typically utilize these specific EMA lengths to determine the market "gravity" and trend strength.

  • Short-Term Momentum: The EMA 1 (5-period) and EMA 2 (13-period) are used to track immediate price momentum. A crossover between these two lines often signals a potential entry or exit point in alignment with the Delorean strategy.
  • Trend Hierarchy: The EMA 3 (50-period), EMA 4 (200-period), and EMA 5 (800-period) represent medium-to-long-term trends. Price holding above the 800 EMA, for example, suggests a long-term bullish environment.
  • Dynamic Support and Resistance: Larger EMA periods like the 200 and 800 frequently act as significant psychological and institutional price floors or ceilings.

For example, if the 5 EMA crosses above the 13 EMA while price is trading above the 200 EMA, it may indicate a high-probability bullish trend continuation.

Details

The script calculates five distinct Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) based on user-defined lengths. Unlike simple moving averages, EMAs place a higher weight on recent price data, making them more responsive to new information.

The default configuration follows the Delorean methodology:

  • 5 EMA: Fast momentum.
  • 13 EMA: Medium momentum.
  • 50 EMA: Short-term trend.
  • 200 EMA: Long-term trend.
  • 800 EMA: Institutional trend.

The tool also includes built-in alert logic for crossovers between the 5-period and 13-period EMAs, facilitating real-time monitoring of potential trade setups.

Settings

  • EMA Length 1: The period for the first (fastest) EMA, typically used for immediate momentum (default: 5).
  • EMA Length 2: The period for the second EMA, used in conjunction with the first for crossover signals (default: 13).
  • EMA Length 3: The period for the third EMA, representing a medium-term trend baseline (default: 50).
  • EMA Length 4: The period for the fourth EMA, often used to identify the primary daily or weekly trend (default: 200).
  • EMA Length 5: The period for the fifth EMA, representing the most significant institutional trend level (default: 800).

FAQ

Which EMA crossover triggers the alert? The script is configured to trigger an alert whenever the EMA 1 (5-period) crosses over or under the EMA 2 (13-period) on the close of the bar.

Can I change the colors of the EMA lines? Yes, while the default colors are set for the Delorean strategy (Yellow, Red, Cyan, Gray, Blue), you can modify the colors and line thicknesses in the "Style" tab of the indicator settings.

How do I access the Delorean EMA's? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
