The Optimized Trend Tracker Oscillator OTTO indicator provides a high-sensitivity trend-following oscillator designed to capture price momentum and trend reversals more responsively than the original OTT. By utilizing multiple VIDYA moving average layers and a correction constant, it filters market noise to generate actionable buy and sell signals through an oscillator format.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This section also focuses on how main settings affect the indicator interpretation and output.

The OTTO is primarily used to identify trend direction and potential entry or exit points via line crossovers. It consists of two primary lines: the LOTT (Lower Optimized Trend Tracker) and the HOTT (Higher Optimized Trend Tracker).

  • Bullish Signal: A bullish reversal is indicated when the blue LOTT line crosses above the red HOTT line.
  • Bearish Signal: A bearish reversal is indicated when the blue LOTT line crosses below the red HOTT line.
  • Trend Confirmation: The background highlighting provides immediate visual confirmation of the current trend state, with green indicating bullish momentum and red indicating bearish momentum.

Details

The OTTO is a derivative of Anıl Özekşi's Optimized Trend Tracker (OTT), refined for increased sensitivity to price movements. It incorporates three distinct VIDYA (Variable Index Dynamic Average) calculations using fast and slow lengths to derive its core oscillator value.

A unique component of the OTTO is the Correcting Constant, which stabilizes the calculation during periods of low volatility or extreme price gaps. Users can adjust this constant (typically between 1,000 and 100,000,000) to fine-tune the accuracy and visual scaling of the oscillator values. The script also offers flexibility in the underlying moving average type, allowing the calculation to adapt to different market conditions or asset classes.

Settings

  • OTT Period: Sets the lookback period for the main Optimized Trend Tracker calculation.
  • OTT Optimization Coeff: Adjusts the sensitivity of the optimization filter; higher values make the indicator more lagging but filter more noise.
  • FAST VIDYA Length: The period used for the fast Variable Index Dynamic Average calculation.
  • SLOW VIDYA Length: The period used for the slow Variable Index Dynamic Average calculation.
  • Correcting Constant: A stabilization parameter used to manage the oscillator's output values.
  • Source: The price data point used for calculations (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
  • OTTO Crossing Signals?: Toggles the visibility of "Buy" and "Sell" labels on the chart.
  • Highlighter On/Off?: Enables or disables the background color fill between the HOTT and LOTT lines.
  • Moving Average Type: Selects the mathematical method for the core average (options include SMA, EMA, WMA, DEMA, TMA, VAR, WWMA, ZLEMA, TSF, and HULL).

FAQ

How do I interpret the HOTT and LOTT lines? The LOTT line represents the immediate price momentum, while the HOTT line acts as a dynamic trailing support or resistance level. A crossover between these two lines signifies a change in trend direction.

What is the purpose of the Correcting Constant? The Correcting Constant is used to prevent mathematical anomalies in the oscillator calculation, ensuring the resulting values remain within a readable and stable range on the indicator pane.
