Multiple Moving Averages System V3
Dec 26, 2014

The Multiple Moving Averages System indicator provides a dynamic multi-layered trend analysis framework by automatically adjusting moving average lengths based on the active chart timeframe to highlight momentum shifts and trend direction.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This section also focuses on how main settings affect the indicator interpretation and output.
Users can utilize the three primary moving averages to identify long-term trend bias, while the "Leader" and "Signal" components identify short-term momentum.
- Trend Identification: When price is trading above the moving averages and the averages are colored green, a bullish trend is present. Conversely, price below red moving averages indicates a bearish trend.
- Momentum Crossovers: The Leader (SMA) and Signal (EMA) lines create a ribbon on the chart. A crossover where the Leader moves above the Signal suggests bullish momentum, while a crossunder suggests bearish momentum.
- Bar Coloring: The script modifies candle colors to reflect the confluence of momentum and price action. Bright green bars indicate bullish momentum where the leader is above the signal and price is above the leader. Bright red bars indicate bearish momentum where the leader is below the signal and price is below the leader.
Details
The script is constructed using a adaptive logic system that switches the lengths of the three primary EMAs (MA 1, MA 2, and MA 3) depending on the timeframe selected (e.g., 1m, 5m, 1h, 1D). This ensures that the moving averages represent consistent temporal horizons regardless of the chart resolution.
The core calculation relies on Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) for the three main trend lines to reduce lag, while the momentum ribbon uses a combination of a Simple Moving Average (Leader) and an EMA (Signal). This combination is designed to trigger faster alerts for short-term reversals while maintaining a stable long-term trend outlook.
Settings
- Source: Determines the price data used for all moving average calculations (default is OHLC4).
- Show MA 1/2/3: Toggles the visibility of the three primary trend moving averages.
- Leader: Sets the length for the Simple Moving Average used in the momentum ribbon.
- Signal: Sets the length for the Exponential Moving Average used in the momentum ribbon.
FAQ
How do the moving average lengths change automatically? The script uses a switch function that detects the current chart timeframe and assigns pre-defined lengths optimized for that specific period (e.g., Daily, Hourly, or Minute scales).
What do the different bar colors signify? Green bars signify bullish alignment between the leader/signal and price, red bars signify bearish alignment, and gray bars indicate neutral or conflicting conditions.
How can I access the Multiple Moving Averages System? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
