The CVD with Moving Average (Trend Colors) indicator provides an adapted visualization of Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) overlaid with multiple customizable moving averages and divergence detection. It aims to offer a clearer perspective on market momentum by smoothing volume delta data over time rather than focusing on isolated candle elements, helping traders identify trend shifts and volume-price discrepancies.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze market sentiment and momentum. Traders can utilize this tool to confirm trends through moving average crossovers or identify potential reversals using built-in divergence labels.

  • Trend Analysis: By applying moving averages to the CVD line, users can determine if the current buying or selling pressure is accelerating or decelerating relative to historical averages.
  • Crossover Signals: Similar to price-based moving averages, the intersection of the CVD line and its moving averages can signal entry or exit points.
  • Divergence Spotting: The indicator automatically detects divergences between the asset price and the CVD. For example, if price reaches a new high while the CVD fails to do so, it suggests weakening buying pressure and a possible trend exhaustion.
  • Adaptability: The script allows for "Auto" mode, which automatically adjusts MA lengths based on the active timeframe (e.g., using longer periods like 233 for lower timeframes and shorter periods like 55 for daily charts).

Details

Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) represents the running total of the difference between buying and selling volume. Unlike standard volume delta, which resets every candle, CVD provides a continuous flow of data.

  • Logic: The script calculates delta by evaluating price movement relative to volume. If "Volume Integration" is enabled, it uses a volume-weighted calculation to provide a more weighted view of market pressure.
  • Moving Average Application: Smoothing the CVD line with EMA, SMA, WMA, RMA, or HMA filters out high-frequency noise. This is particularly useful for identifying the "true" direction of market volume, which often precedes price movements.
  • Volatility Adaptation: The tool includes a dynamic cloud feature that adjusts based on ATR (Average True Range), helping traders visualize the "breathing room" of the volume trend during different volatility regimes.

Settings

  • MA Parameters Mode: Toggle between "Auto (by TF)" for automatic length selection or "Custom" for manual control.
  • Long/Short MA Lengths: Define the periods for the primary and secondary moving averages (defaults include 55, 89, 34, and 21).
  • MA Types: Select the smoothing method for each average (SMA, EMA, WMA, RMA, or HMA).
  • Use Higher Timeframe Data: Allows the calculation of CVD and averages based on a higher timeframe (e.g., Daily data on a 1-hour chart) to filter out intraday noise.
  • Use Volume Integration: When enabled, the CVD calculation incorporates volume more heavily to reflect actual trading activity.
  • CVD Display Type: Choose between a continuous "Line" or "Regular Candlesticks" for the CVD output.
  • Divergence Settings: Adjust sensitivity for divergence detection, including ATR multipliers and pivot memory.
  • Rolling Channel: Enables a volatility-based channel (Bollinger-style or Percentile) around the anchor moving average.

FAQ

How does CVD differ from standard Volume Delta? Standard Volume Delta only shows the pressure for a single candle, whereas CVD accumulates that data over time to show the total balance of power between buyers and sellers over a specific period.

Why should I use CVD on a Spot exchange chart instead of Futures? The script developer recommends Spot charts (like Binance BTC/USDT) because they often represent "real" asset movement with less leverage-driven volatility, leading to cleaner divergence signals.
