# Accumulative Swing Index

Accumulative Swing Index is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

Wilder's Accumulative Swing Index as a complete analysis pane: the running sum of per-bar Swing Index values with an ATR-based or fixed limit-move divisor. It holds confirmed ASI swing levels for breakout validation, auto-draws trendlines on the ASI's own pivots, and can flag price/ASI divergences: the reads the line was designed for.

**Accumulative Swing Index** is the library's first faithful build of Wilder's [Accumulative Swing Index](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/accumulative-swing-index/): the per-bar Swing Index is built from two bars of OHLC and summed into the ASI line, with the limit-move divisor supplied by a 14-period ATR or a fixed contract value. Around the line it adds swing levels, automatic trendlines and breakout validation against price.

Swing points confirm with 10 bars on each side, on price and on the ASI alike. The latest ASI swing high and low are held as levels, and every price breakout is graded against them.

## How to Trade the Accumulative Swing Index?

- **Confirmed Bullish Breakout / Confirmed Bearish Breakdown**: price crosses its prior swing extreme with the ASI beyond its own, the validated break.
- **Suspect Bullish Breakout / Suspect Bearish Breakdown**: price breaks out alone; treat with suspicion.
- **ASI trendline breaks**: dashed lines join falling ASI highs and rising ASI lows; breaks there often lead the same break on price.
- **Divergence lines**: price sets a fresh swing extreme that the ASI refuses to match.

## Accumulative Swing Index Settings

- **Limit Move (T)** (default ATR-Based): the formula's divisor; Fixed Value reproduces the original futures usage, ATR-Based suits markets without price limits.
- **ATR Length** (default 14): ATR window used in ATR-Based mode.
- **Fixed Limit Move** (default 300): constant divisor; set it to the contract's limit move.
- **Swing Length** (default 10): bars each side to confirm swing points on price and the ASI.
- **Show ASI Swing Levels** (default on): keeps the latest ASI swing high and low in the pane.
- **Breakout Markers** (default off): plots the confirmed and suspect marks; alerts fire either way.
- **ASI Trendlines** (default on) and **Divergence Lines** (default off): the two automatic drawing layers.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the difference between the ASI and the Swing Index?

The [Swing Index](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/swing-index/) is the per-bar building block, a signed score of what each bar accomplished; the ASI is its running total, a line whose swings and trendlines mirror price closely enough to be analyzed like price.

### Does the limit-move choice change the signals?

It can. Changing the **Fixed Limit Move** value only rescales the line, so its swings and drawings stay the same. ATR-Based divides each bar by the current ATR, which adapts where no exchange limit exists but reweights bars against each other, so ASI swing points, breakout grades, trendlines and divergences can differ between the two modes.

### Why are breakouts graded confirmed or suspect?

The design premise is that a genuine price breakout should be echoed by the ASI taking out its own prior swing point. When the echo is missing, the breakout rests on bar structure the index scores as weak: reported, but as suspect.
