# Candlestick Channels

Candlestick Channels is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

A price channel whose extremities converge toward price whenever candlestick patterns print, tightening fastest where formations cluster. A stochastic-based trend read filters which patterns count, and detected formations are highlighted on the chart. For traders who want channel signals and candlestick evidence fused into one adaptive tool.

**Candlestick Channels** draws a price channel that listens to candlesticks: when a formation such as an [engulfing pattern](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/bullish-bearish-engulfing/) is detected, the relevant channel extremity converges toward price, and clusters of patterns pull it in faster. A stochastic-based trend read decides which formations count in context, detected patterns are highlighted on the chart, and any pattern you disable simply stops influencing the channel.

## How to Trade the Candlestick Channels?

- **Cross above the upper extremity**: uptrend indication, in line with classic channel logic.
- **Cross below the lower extremity**: downtrend indication.
- **Average-line crosses**: the orange center line fires earlier and more often: quicker signals, more noise.
- **Pattern plus extremity**: treat formations (from [hammers](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/hammer/) to shooting stars) as entries and the converging extremity as the confirmation zone, favoring bullish patterns above the average line and bearish ones below it.

Because bullish formations draw the upper extremity toward price, intersections become more likely exactly where pattern evidence accumulates. Lower Convergence values demand more patterns before the extremity closes in, which effectively raises the bar for a signal.

## Candlestick Channels Settings

- **Trend Length**: period of the stochastic oscillator used to gauge trend sentiment, which drives pattern identification.
- **Convergence**: how quickly extremities move inward when a pattern appears; lower values converge more gradually.
- **Smooth**: smoothness of the channel boundaries.
- **Patterns**: individual toggles for each detectable formation; disabled patterns no longer affect the channel.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why do engulfing patterns not affect my channel?

Bullish and bearish engulfing detection is disabled by default because those formations occur so frequently. Enable them under Patterns if you want them contributing, and expect noticeably more convergence events once you do.

### Why are gap-based patterns missing?

Formations that rely on price gaps are deliberately excluded: gaps are rare in around-the-clock markets like crypto, so including them would make the channel behave differently there than on stocks. The omission keeps behavior consistent across markets.

### Where can I get Candlestick Channels, and is it paid?

It is free, one of the LuxAlgo Originals in the library, available from this page. If you want pattern detection with trend filtering but no channel, its sibling [Candlestick Structure](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/candlestick-structure/) approaches the same formations from that angle. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
