# Correlated Sine Oscillator

Correlated Sine Oscillator is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

A cycle oscillator that detrends price, estimates the phase of the cycle at your chosen Cycle Period, and plots a phase-aligned sine wave normalized between -1 and +1. Zero-line crosses print bullish and bearish triangles while readings near the extremes flag cycle peaks and troughs, giving cycle-focused traders a clean timing read on any market.

The **Correlated Sine Oscillator** tracks the phase of price's cycle at the chosen Cycle Period and draws it as a clean sine wave normalized between -1 and +1. The current phase (rising, falling, peaking, troughing) reads at a glance. It descends from the [sinewave indicator](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/sinewave-indicator/) school of cycle analysis: price is detrended with a simple moving average, projected onto sine and cosine components over the chosen Cycle Period, and the arctangent of those components gives the phase. A synthetic sine wave is then shifted so it stays [correlated](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/correlation/) with the actual swings rather than drifting out of sync.

## How to Trade the Correlated Sine Oscillator?

- **Cross above zero**: a bullish triangle prints below the bar as the rising phase begins, a long trigger when it agrees with broader structure.
- **Cross below zero**: a bearish triangle prints above the bar as the falling phase starts, used for shorts or exits.
- **Readings near +1 or -1**: cycle peak and trough territory; scale out, tighten stops, or watch for turns instead of chasing.

Because signals come from midline crossings rather than fixed overbought and oversold bands, the oscillator holds up better in trending conditions than threshold-style momentum tools, and the normalized range reads identically across crypto, forex, indices, and equities.

## Correlated Sine Oscillator Settings

- **Cycle Period**: the wavelength in bars the oscillator is tuned to. Shorter values chase faster cycles, longer values track broader structure.
- **Phase Multiplier**: smooths the internal phase components; raise it for steadier output with slightly more lag, lower it for faster response in quick markets.
- **Bullish Color / Bearish Color**: the plot and gradient fill on each side of zero.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How does it compare to the Even Better Sinewave?

The [Even Better Sinewave](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/even-better-sinewave/) filters price toward a chosen wavelength band; this build instead generates a synthetic sine and phase-shifts it to match measured price swings, adding explicit triangle signals at zero crossings. Both are bounded cycle tools. Pick by how you like signals delivered.

### Does the oscillator repaint?

Closed bars never change and there is no lookahead, but the oscillator updates on the live bar, so a triangle can appear and then vanish while the bar is still forming; treat it as final only once its bar closes. As with any tuned cycle tool, confirm behavior on your own timeframe and settings before relying on it.

### How do I get the Correlated Sine Oscillator?

It's free in the LuxAlgo Library. From this page you can send it to Quant, our coding agent, to run it or backtest cycle-timing ideas straight away. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
