The Higher Timeframe High & Low indicator provides traders with a streamlined method for projecting key price levels from a higher timeframe directly onto their current chart to identify significant support and resistance zones.

Usage

The Higher Timeframe High & Low tool is designed for multi-timeframe analysis, allowing users to visualize macro price boundaries while trading micro price action.

  • Support and Resistance: The projected High and Low lines serve as horizontal support and resistance. Small diamond symbols (◆) appear when the current price interacts with these levels without breaking through, suggesting a potential rejection.
  • Breakout Identification: When the current price closes above the higher timeframe high or below the low, the script identifies a breakout. These are marked with "High Break" or "Low Break" labels, indicating a potential trend continuation.
  • Trend Tracking: By enabling the trend visualization feature, users can change the bar colors based on the most recent breakout direction. This helps in maintaining a directional bias aligned with higher timeframe momentum.
  • Forward Projection: The indicator extends the current higher timeframe levels into the future (right of the chart), providing a clear visual target for expected price ranges.

Details

The script utilizes the request.security function to pull data from a user-defined timeframe. To ensure accuracy and prevent repainting, it employs logic that differentiates between historical and real-time bars, ensuring levels are plotted only after the higher timeframe period has closed (or consistently during real-time updates). The average price (Mid-point) is also calculated to provide a secondary level of interest within the higher timeframe range.

Settings

  • Extension to the right of High and Low: Determines the number of bars to extend the horizontal price lines into the future.
  • Timeframe: Sets the higher timeframe (e.g., Daily, Weekly) used to derive the levels.
  • Period Separator: Toggles a background color change to visually distinguish between different higher timeframe periods.
  • Show Trend?: When active, this changes the bar colors and line styles to reflect the current market trend based on breakout logic.
  • Show Breakout Labels?: Toggles the visibility of text labels that appear when the higher timeframe high or low is breached.

FAQ

How do I use the breakout labels for trading?

Breakout labels signify that price has closed outside the previous higher timeframe range. Many traders use these as signals for trend continuation or to adjust their bias from bullish to bearish and vice versa.

Can I use this for intraday trading?

Yes, you can set the Higher Timeframe to "D" (Daily) while viewing a 5-minute or 15-minute chart to see where the previous day's high and low levels sit relative to today's price action.
