# High/Low Location Frequency

High/Low Location Frequency is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

A statistics dashboard that measures where your market's tops and bottoms actually tend to print: by hour of day, day of week, day of month, and month of year. Exclusion filters strip out unwanted hours, days, months, or years, and high-probability periods can be flagged with vertical lines on the chart, with optional labels marking each period's actual top and bottom. Timing evidence for session-aware traders.

**High/Low Location Frequency** compiles [session high/low statistics](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/session-high-low-statistics/) for the symbol on your chart, measuring how often highs and lows have printed in each hour of the day, day of the week, day of the month, and month of the year. The probabilities appear in a dashboard whose header reports how much history was sampled, and the strongest readings can be projected onto the chart itself, turning a statistical table into visible timing levels.

## How to Trade the High/Low Location Frequency?

- **Red high-probability lines**: periods where tops have formed unusually often, a caution zone for chasing strength and a candidate window for fading it.
- **Green high-probability lines**: the mirror image for bottoms, marking when weakness has historically found buyers.
- **Top/Bottom labels and period highlights**: optional markers denote each period's extreme ranges and the start of every new period, keeping the context readable bar by bar.

Because the readings are computed per period type, the tool makes [intraday time-of-day effects](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/intraday-time-of-day-effects/) visible for your exact market rather than a generic session template. Week handling adapts too: crypto symbols count a seven-day week from Sunday, while all other symbols use a Monday-to-Friday week.

## High/Low Location Frequency Settings

- **Period**: which bars (hours, days, months) the statistics are computed over.
- **Execution Window**: the range of bars used for gathering data.
- **Hours of Day / Days of Week / Days of Month / Months / Years**: exclusion filters accepting lists such as `1,2,3` or `1 2 3` (one separator, comma or space) for pruning old regimes or dead sessions from the sample.
- **Dashboard and style inputs**: dashboard position and size, plus visibility and coloring for the probability lines, labels, and period-change highlights.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Which markets does this work best on?

Any market with enough history to build a meaningful sample: crypto, stocks, and forex alike. For month-of-year tendencies viewed across decades, the [Seasonality Chart](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/seasonality-chart/) makes a natural companion to the hourly and daily focus here.

### Why would I exclude years or days from the calculation?

Old market regimes can drown out current behavior. Removing specific years, or days that no longer trade the way they once did, keeps the frequency table weighted toward conditions that still resemble today's.

### Is the High/Low Location Frequency free?

Yes. It is available at no cost from the LuxAlgo Library, ready to drop onto any chart. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
