Real Strength Scalper
May 8, 2026

The Real Strength Scalper indicator provides a comprehensive momentum-continuation framework designed for lower-timeframe scalping by fusing price action, volume, and trend strength into a single composite oscillator.
Usage
The Real Strength Scalper is primarily used to identify high-conviction entries during trending market phases. It is optimized for the 5-minute timeframe on liquid assets like crypto futures or forex.
Entry Conditions
A trade is initiated when several momentum and trend factors align:
- Histogram Threshold: The Real Strength value must exceed a specific positive or negative threshold.
- Rising Momentum: The histogram must be increasing for longs (or decreasing for shorts) to ensure entry occurs on active momentum rather than a fading peak.
- Confirmation Filters: ADX must be above a minimum floor (default 14) and volume must be higher than its moving average to confirm market participation.
- Trend Alignment: An optional dual SMA filter (default 30/60) ensures trades are only taken in the direction of the broader trend.
Regime-Dependent Exits
The script utilizes a dynamic exit strategy based on whether the trend filter still supports the position:
- Trend Confirmation Exit: If the SMAs still favor the trade, the position is held until the histogram crosses into the opposite zone beyond a specific "flip" threshold. This allows the user to ride through minor pullbacks.
- Trend Reversal Exit: If the SMAs cross against the position, a sensitive "peak-drop" logic is activated. The trade closes if the histogram retreats by a set percentage (default 25%) from its highest point reached during the trade.
Details
The core of the tool is the "Real Strength" composite oscillator, which calculates conviction by multiplying three distinct components:
- Price Momentum: Measured via the Rate of Change (ROC).
- Volume Amplifier: Current volume relative to its moving average.
- Trend Amplifier: ADX values scaled around a reference point.
By multiplying these factors, the script ensures that a high reading is only possible when price movement, volume, and trend strength are all present. If one component is weak, it dampens the entire oscillator. The resulting value is smoothed with an EMA to reduce noise.
The strategy also includes a Re-Entry Lock mechanism. If a static stop loss is triggered, the script prevents a new entry in the same direction until the oscillator returns to the zero line. This prevents "revenge trading" or re-entering a failing momentum move during choppy market conditions.
Settings
Strength
- Momentum (ROC) length: The lookback period for calculating price rate of change.
- Volume MA length: The lookback period for the volume baseline.
- ADX/DI length: Period settings for the Average Directional Index and Directional Indicators.
- Histogram smoothing: The length of the EMA applied to the final composite value.
Filters
- Min ADX: Minimum trend strength required to allow an entry signal.
- Min Volume Ratio: The multiplier for how much volume must exceed the average (e.g., 1.2x).
- Strength threshold: The minimum magnitude the histogram must reach to trigger a signal.
Trend Filter
- SMA Fast / Slow: The periods for the dual moving average trend filter.
- Use SMA Trend Filter: Toggles whether the SMAs are required to confirm an entry.
Risk & Exit
- Stop Loss %: The percentage-based distance for the hard stop loss.
- Peak drop % to exit: The percentage the histogram must retreat from its peak to trigger an exit when the trend is not confirming.
- Flip exit threshold: The level the histogram must reach in the opposite direction to close a trade during a confirmed trend.
- Min bars before peak/flip exit: Minimum duration to hold a trade before the peak/flip logic can trigger, preventing premature exits.
FAQ
How do I interpret the histogram colors? Bright green or red bars indicate the histogram is moving further away from zero (strengthening), while darker/faded colors indicate the histogram is beginning to retreat toward zero (weakening).
What markets work best with this tool? The script is designed for liquid markets with consistent volume profiles, such as major cryptocurrency pairs or high-volume forex pairs.
How can I access the Real Strength Scalper? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
