The Price Action Trading System v0.3 indicator identifies strong trend continuance candidates by combining Commodity Channel Index (CCI) dynamics with MACD, RSI, and Price Action Channel filters.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This section also focuses on how main settings affect the indicator interpretation and output.

The indicator is designed primarily for trend-following strategies on various timeframes, though it was originally optimized for 15-minute charts. It functions as an alert generator for potential trend continuations rather than a standalone signal generator.

  • Call Entry: Indicated by a Green Triangle. This is confirmed when the MACD background is green and CCI candles are aqua. Optimal entries often occur when the price retraces back to the "Gold" median line or inside the price action channel.
  • Put Entry: Indicated by a Red Triangle. This is confirmed when the MACD background is red and CCI candles are black (or the default foreground color). Optimal entries often occur when the price retraces to the gold line or back inside the channel.

The system is most effective in trending markets. Users should exercise caution or avoid trades when the MACD and signal lines are too close, or when the channel and slow Moving Average (MA) are flat or crossing frequently (choppy conditions).

Details

The script implements the "Price Action Channel" system, often referred to as "The Gold Line." It utilizes several technical components to filter out noise and identify momentum:

  • Price Action Channel: Consists of three lines based on EMAs of the high, low, and hl2 prices to define the immediate trading range.
  • CCI Dynamics: Uses the Commodity Channel Index to detect overbought/oversold conditions that signal trend strength.
  • MACD Filter: A MACD(12, 17, 8) is used to determine the primary trend direction, visualized through background coloring.
  • Trend Filter: A slow EMA (17) acts as a baseline; the system checks if this line is rising or falling over a user-defined number of candles to confirm the trend direction.
  • RSI Filter: An RSI(7) filter is included to provide additional momentum confirmation alongside the CCI.

Settings

  • CCI Length: Sets the period for the Commodity Channel Index calculation.
  • CCI UpLevel/DownLevel: Defines the thresholds for identifying trend strength.
  • Color CCI Bars: Enables or disables the bar coloring based on CCI levels.
  • CCI Source: Determines the price source used for CCI calculations (default is close).
  • Channel Lengths (Low, High, Median): Adjusts the EMA periods for the three lines forming the Price Action Channel.
  • MACD Parameters (Fast, Slow, Signal): Configures the lengths for the MACD indicator used for background filtering.
  • RSI Parameters (Length, Upper, Lower): Configures the RSI period and the limits required for signal confirmation.
  • Use MACD/RSI/Trend Direction Filters: Boolean toggles that allow users to enable or disable specific confirmation requirements for signals.
  • Direction test Candles: Specifies the number of lookback bars used to determine if the slow EMA trend line is rising or falling.

FAQ

How do I interpret the background colors? The background color is driven by the MACD; a green background indicates a bullish MACD state, while a red background indicates a bearish state, serving as a primary trend filter.

Can this indicator be used for scalping? Yes, the system was originally inspired by scalping techniques. However, it is recommended to focus on the first alert after a MACD crossover for the highest probability setups.
