Scripting Tutorial 5 - Triple Many Moving Averages Crossovers
Sep 21, 2019

The Triple Many Moving Averages Improved indicator allows users to plot three customizable moving averages with various calculation methods and sources to identify trend direction and crossover signals.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze market trends through multiple moving average layers. By selecting different periods and types, traders can build a custom trend-following system. For example, a trader might use a short-term 20-period EMA, a medium-term 50-period SMA, and a long-term 200-period HMA to identify "Golden Cross" or "Death Cross" scenarios across different timeframes.
The indicator visualizes interactions between the three lines. When a crossover occurs (e.g., MA1 crossing over MA2), a visual label is generated on the chart to signify the event. Users can toggle the visibility of individual lines or the crossover labels to clean up the chart interface depending on their specific strategy needs.
Details
This script is an educational advancement that demonstrates how to implement multiple moving average types within a single tool. It utilizes a centralized getMa function to calculate several types of averages:
- Standard Averages: SMA, EMA, WMA, and RMA.
- Advanced Averages: Includes the Hull Moving Average (HMA), Double Exponential Moving Average (DEMA), and Triple Exponential Moving Average (TEMA), providing options with lower lag than standard calculations.
The script monitors six potential crossover combinations (MA1/MA2, MA1/MA3, and MA2/MA3) and includes optimized alert triggers for each. The original logic provided by @BigBitsIO has been refactored for Pine Script v6 to ensure visual clarity and performance efficiency.
Settings
- MA1/MA2/MA3 Period: Sets the lookback length for the respective moving average calculation.
- MA1/MA2/MA3 Type: Defines the mathematical formula used (options include SMA, EMA, WMA, RMA, HMA, DEMA, TEMA).
- MA1/MA2/MA3 Source: Determines which price data (Close, Open, High, Low, etc.) is used as the input for the calculation.
- MA1/MA2/MA3 Visible: A toggle to show or hide the specific moving average line on the chart.
- Show Crosses: Enables or disables the visual labels and alert execution for crossover events.
FAQ
What moving average types are included in this script? The script includes Simple (SMA), Exponential (EMA), Weighted (WMA), Rolling (RMA), Hull (HMA), Double Exponential (DEMA), and Triple Exponential (TEMA) moving averages.
Can I set up alerts for specific crossovers? Yes, the script is optimized for alerts and will trigger a notification whenever the selected moving averages cross each other, provided "Show Crosses" is enabled.
How do I access the Triple Many Moving Averages Improved indicator? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
