# Midnight Open Retracement

Midnight Open Retracement is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

Plots the 12:00 AM New York open and tracks whether the session retraces to it, setting bias automatically from where the 9:30 AM open sits relative to the level. A dashboard reports fixed historical retracement frequencies compiled from Nasdaq 100 futures data, plus a probability line for the current weekday. For intraday and ICT-style index futures traders.

The **Midnight Open Retracement** is built around the most consequential of the [ICT time anchors](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/ict-time-anchors/): the 12:00 AM New York open. The indicator plots that level automatically, compares it with the 9:30 AM session open to establish the day's retracement bias, and pairs the chart work with a dashboard of historical retracement frequencies compiled from rolling six-month studies of Nasdaq 100 (NQ) futures behavior.

## How to Trade the Midnight Open Retracement?

- **Session opens above the midnight open**: bearish retracement bias. In the dashboard's history, price has returned to the level roughly 74% of the time.
- **Session opens below**: bullish bias, with retracements recorded about 63% of the time.
- **Use the level as a take-profit**: the midnight open acts as a natural liquidity target for session trades, and a marker prints when price completes the retracement.
- **Respect the weekday**: the probability readout updates by day: Wednesdays have reached up to 89% when opening above, while Mondays often fall below 60%, a caution flag.

The session box also recolors according to where price trades relative to the session open, keeping the bias visible at a glance.

## Midnight Open Retracement Settings

- **Timezone Mode**: Exchange time or America/New_York. The latter suits ICT-style workflows.
- **Midnight Open Time / NY Open Time**: the two anchor times behind the level and the bias.
- **NY Session Range**: visual boundaries of the session.
- **Display toggles**: midnight level, retrace circle, session box, and the insights dashboard with position and size controls.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does it only apply to Nasdaq futures?

The statistics are calibrated on NQ data, so treat the probabilities as NQ-specific. The midnight-open logic itself may carry to other deeply liquid indices, but verify behavior before assuming the numbers transfer.

### Which tools pair well with it?

Other time-anchored session tools are natural companions: the [ICT Silver Bullet](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/ict-silver-bullet/) works the same New York morning clock, framing entries while this tool supplies the statistically grounded target.

### How do I access the Midnight Open Retracement?

The tool is free through the LuxAlgo Library. Its page includes the option to run it in Quant, our coding agent, so you can study midnight-open behavior hands-on. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
