# NFP Price Zones

NFP Price Zones is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

NFP Price Zones prepares a chart for Non-Farm Payrolls by projecting expansion zones from the statistics of past releases and freezing them 30 minutes before the print. Historical reaction boxes plus a dashboard tracking average range, directional expansion, and a live countdown give news traders in forex, indices, gold, and crypto a structured plan.

**NFP Price Zones** turns the monthly Non-Farm Payrolls release from a volatility lottery into a mapped event. Purpose-built for [macro event days](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/macro-event-days/), it takes the first Friday of each month as the NFP date (check the official calendar in months when the release moves), measures how price expanded around the release time on past first Fridays, and projects those statistics forward: average expansion levels drawn on the chart before the number ever hits.

## How to Trade the NFP Price Zones?

- **Projected expansion levels**: read the lines to the right of price as breakout triggers, take-profit targets, or exhaustion markers when a move approaches its historical average.
- **Frozen anchor**: exactly 30 minutes before the scheduled time, the zones stop tracking price: fixed levels for objective risk placement while the release hits.
- **Dashboard readout**: Avg Range, Max Range, and Avg Up/Dn Exp summarize past releases; a countdown flips to EVENT LIVE, and To High/Low Exp shows the remaining distance, in pips, from current price to each projected expansion level.
- **Historical boxes**: review highlighted past NFP windows to see how your market usually behaves in the release minutes.

Once frozen, the projections act as event-scoped [support and resistance zones](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/s-r-zone/): breakout traders want a clean escape from them, mean-reversion traders fade price pressing into the outer expansions. The tool also works in bar replay, so past releases can be rehearsed bar by bar.

## NFP Price Zones Settings

- **Historical NFPs to Analyze**: how many past releases feed the statistics: more for stability, fewer for responsiveness.
- **NFP Release Hour (24h)** and **NFP Release Minute** (default 08:30 ET): align projections with the official release time.
- **Show Historical Zones** / **Zone Color**: toggle and style the past reaction boxes.
- **Dashboard**, **Position**, **Size**: control the statistics panel and its placement.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How are the projected zones calculated?

Each level is derived from the average expansion, measured up and down from the pre-news open, across the analyzed releases. The projections follow price into the event and freeze half an hour before release, so your levels stay put when volatility arrives.

### How is this different from an opening range tool?

[Opening Range with Breakouts & Targets](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/opening-range-with-breakouts-targets/) frames the first minutes of every session; NFP Price Zones frames one scheduled macro release, with statistics drawn purely from prior NFP windows. They complement each other when payrolls land inside your trading session.

### Is NFP Price Zones free to use?

Yes, it is free in the LuxAlgo Library. Being a free release, it can also be opened in Quant, our coding agent, directly from this page to study past release behavior. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
