The TDMacd indicator provides a specialized momentum-tracking framework designed to identify trend direction and potential reversal points through a refined Moving Average Convergence Divergence calculation.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on interpreting the relationship between the MACD line, the signal line, and the histogram. Traders can use this tool to identify momentum shifts when the MACD line crosses the signal line or when the histogram changes color.

  • Trend Identification: When the MACD line is above the signal line, it suggests bullish momentum. Conversely, when the MACD line is below the signal line, it suggests bearish momentum.
  • Crossovers: Bullish signals occur when the MACD line crosses above the signal line. Bearish signals occur when the MACD line crosses below the signal line.
  • Histogram Analysis: The histogram visualizes the slope of the MACD. A green histogram indicates rising momentum, while a red histogram indicates declining momentum.

Details

The TDMacd is based on the original logic by ChaosTrader and has been refactored for modern technical analysis standards. It differs from standard MACD settings by utilizing a faster default configuration (5, 20, 30) compared to the traditional (12, 26, 9) setup.

The calculation process involves:

  1. Calculating a Fast Exponential Moving Average (EMA).
  2. Calculating a Slow Exponential Moving Average (EMA).
  3. Determining the MACD line by subtracting the Slow EMA from the Fast EMA.
  4. Applying a Simple Moving Average (SMA) to the MACD line to create the Signal line.

The visual output includes color-coded elements that change based on the directional change of the lines, allowing for quick visual confirmation of momentum strength.

Settings

  • Fast Length: Determines the period for the shorter-term Exponential Moving Average. Lower values make the indicator more sensitive to price changes.
  • Slow Length: Determines the period for the longer-term Exponential Moving Average. This defines the baseline trend.
  • Signal Length: Sets the smoothing period for the signal line, calculated as a Simple Moving Average of the MACD line.

FAQ

How do I interpret the color changes in the TDMacd? The colors of the MACD line and Histogram change based on whether the MACD value is increasing or decreasing relative to the previous bar, providing an immediate view of momentum acceleration or deceleration.

Can I use this indicator for intraday trading? Yes, the TDMacd is versatile and can be applied to any timeframe, though users may need to adjust the Length settings to suit specific volatility levels.

How can I access the TDMacd? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
