# Open Interest Chart Open Interest Chart is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®. The Open Interest Chart plots the percentage change of futures open interest as color-coded circles at the chart's edge: green when money enters a market, red when it leaves. Because open interest tallies contracts still open, its expansion or contraction reveals whether money is entering or leaving a market, and this indicator shows that state for up to six tickers simultaneously. ## How to Trade the Open Interest Chart? - **Green circle**: open interest rising: fresh money flowing in and activity building. - **Red circle**: open interest declining: positions unwinding, money exiting the market. - **Blue and gray**: blue marks a flat 0% change (a ticker with no data also fills blue), while gray label text means no data is available for that ticker. - **Six tickers side by side**: compare participation across futures markets without cycling through separate charts. COT-derived series follow the CFTC's weekly publication cycle, which is why the daily timeframe ships as the default. Two honest limitations: circles are drawn on bars rather than between them, so visuals can sit slightly misaligned, and bar replay forces frequent redraws. Run it at low speed and pause occasionally to let the drawing refresh. ## Open Interest Chart Settings - **Toggle**: use the pre-set futures open interest symbols, or disable it to enter a custom ticker. - **Pre-filled list**: quick selections including Legacy (COT), Disaggregated (COT2), and Traders in Financial Futures (COT3) report data. - **Timeframe** (default daily): the data timeframe for the open interest series. - **From middle** (enabled by default): draw outward from the middle, or disable to start from the circle's center with an adjustable **Angle**. - **Circle Size**, **Ticker Display**, and the text, fill, and circle styling options round out the visuals. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What does a green circle actually tell me? That open interest increased over the period: contracts were opened on net, typically read as money and attention entering that market.
