The RMI Trend Sniper indicator provides a comprehensive trend-following framework by merging momentum and volume-based oscillators to identify high-probability market entries and reversals. It utilizes a hybrid calculation of the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and Money Flow Index (MFI) to deliver smoothed trend signals alongside dynamic volatility bands.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This section also focuses on how main settings affect the indicator interpretation and output.

  • Trend Identification: The indicator colors the candlesticks and the primary plot based on the prevailing market sentiment. Green indicates a bullish regime, while red indicates a bearish regime.
  • Entry Signals: Labels are generated on the chart when specific momentum conditions are met. A green upward label suggests a potential buy entry when the combined RSI/MFI crosses above the positive threshold with supporting price action. A red downward label suggests a potential sell entry when momentum drops below the negative threshold.
  • Volatility Bands: The indicator plots dynamic bands around a Range Weighted Moving Average (RWMA). These bands expand and contract based on market volatility, helping traders visualize potential exhaustion points or support/resistance zones within a trend.

Details

The RMI Trend Sniper calculates a "RSI-MFI" hybrid value, which is the average of a standard RSI and a volume-weighted Money Flow Index over the same user-defined period.

The bullish signal (Positive Condition) is triggered when:

  1. The previous hybrid value was below the "Positive above" threshold.
  2. The current hybrid value crosses above that threshold.
  3. The hybrid value is higher than the negative threshold.
  4. A 5-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of the price shows a positive change.

The bearish signal (Negative Condition) is triggered when:

  1. The hybrid value falls below the "Negative below" threshold.
  2. The 5-period EMA of the price shows a negative change.

The tool also features a Range Weighted Moving Average (RWMA), which weights price data based on the bar range (High - Low), and a volatility band calculation derived from a 30-period Average True Range (ATR).

Settings

RMI Settings

  • RMI Length: Determines the lookback period for both the RSI and MFI calculations. Higher values result in smoother, slower signals.
  • Positive above: The threshold level that the hybrid oscillator must cross to trigger a bullish momentum state.
  • Negative below: The threshold level below which the hybrid oscillator triggers a bearish momentum state.

Visuals

  • Show Range MA: Toggles the visibility of the Range Weighted Moving Average and its associated volatility bands.
  • Bull Color: Sets the color used for bullish candlesticks, labels, and plots.
  • Bear Color: Sets the color used for bearish candlesticks, labels, and plots.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored bands? The bands provide a visual representation of price volatility around the trend line. When the price is trending strongly, it will typically stay within or near these shaded regions. A break outside these bands may indicate overextended market conditions.

What is the difference between RMI and standard RSI? Unlike a standard RSI which only looks at price changes, this tool incorporates the Money Flow Index (MFI), meaning it accounts for both price action and volume to confirm momentum.
