Moving Averages

The Three moving average strategies tool utilizes three distinct Simple Moving Averages (SMA) to identify trend shifts and momentum-based entry/exit points for automated or manual trading.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, particularly for identifying trend crossovers. The strategy employs a short-term, medium-term, and long-term moving average to generate signals:

  • Standard Crossovers: A "Buy" signal is generated when the short-term SMA (Default: 7) crosses above the medium-term SMA (Default: 25). Conversely, a "Sell" signal is triggered when the medium-term SMA crosses above the short-term SMA.
  • Fast Signals: The script identifies momentum shifts between the short-term and long-term SMA (Default: 99). When the short-term SMA crosses above the long-term SMA, a "Fast Buy" is identified; when the long-term SMA crosses above the short-term SMA, it triggers a "Fast Sell."
  • Visual Interpretation: The area between the short and medium moving averages is color-coded. A green fill indicates bullish alignment (short > mid), while a red fill indicates bearish alignment (mid > short).

Details

The script is built on the concept of moving average crossovers, which are lagging indicators used to confirm the direction of a trend. By using three different timeframes, the script aims to filter noise and provide different levels of sensitivity to price action.

The strategy logic executes a long entry on the short-over-medium crossover and a short entry on the medium-over-short crossover. The "Fast" signals act as additional alerts for significant trend changes relative to long-term price history. The script includes a backtest start year filter to ensure calculations only begin after a specified historical point.

Settings

  • Kısa Vade - Gün (Short Term): Sets the period for the fastest Simple Moving Average (Default: 7).
  • Orta Vade - Gün (Medium Term): Sets the period for the intermediate Simple Moving Average (Default: 25).
  • Uzun Vade - Gün (Long Term): Sets the period for the slowest Simple Moving Average used for "Fast" signals (Default: 99).
  • Backtest Başlangıç Tarihi: Defines the starting year for the strategy's backtest and signal calculations.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored labels on the chart? The labels represent crossover events: "Al" (Buy) and "Sat" (Sell) indicate standard crossovers between short and medium SMAs, while "Hızlı Al" and "Hızlı Sat" indicate crossovers involving the long-term SMA.

Can I use this for intraday trading? Yes, while the inputs are labeled as "Gün" (Days), the logic applies to the period of the chart it is loaded on (e.g., minutes, hours, or days).

How can I access the Three moving average strategies? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
