# Swing Volume Profiles

Swing Volume Profiles is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

Builds a volume profile between consecutive swing points, revealing where trading activity concentrated inside each structural leg. Point of Control levels can extend forward as support and resistance, naked PoCs stay tracked until price returns, and unfilled liquidity voids are flagged, with alerts on PoC, VAH, and VAL interactions.

The **Swing Volume Profiles** indicator anchors a [volume profile](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/volume-profile/) to each pair of swing points, showing how activity distributed across price within every structural leg. Each profile resolves into a Point of Control and a value area, and both keep working after the leg ends: PoC levels can extend forward until crossed or touched, exposing naked PoCs, while sharp low-volume gaps are marked as unfilled liquidity voids that markets tend to revisit.

## How to Trade the Swing Volume Profiles?

- **Point of Control (PoC)**: the leg's highest-volume price; historical and naked PoCs often behave as support or resistance when price returns.
- **Value area (VAH / VAL)**: the zone holding the bulk of traded volume, read as a fair-price region whose edges mark where acceptance ends.
- **High-volume nodes**: heavy-activity shelves that can slow or turn a move on retest.
- **Rejection vs acceptance**: profile extremes align with supply and demand or buyside and sellside liquidity zones, while liquidity voids tend to fill over time and become focal levels.

The script includes alerts for when price crosses the Point of Control, Value Area High, or Value Area Low of the developing profile, so key interactions surface on their own.

## Swing Volume Profiles Settings

- **Mode** and **# Bars**: 'Present' analyzes a defined recent window of bars, while 'Historical' stretches detection across available data.
- **Swing Detection Length**: the lookback that finds the swings anchoring each profile.
- **Value Area Volume %**: the share of total volume that defines the value area.
- **Extend PoC**: projects PoC levels forward, including untouched ones, under your chosen cross or touch condition.
- **Unfilled Liquidity, Thresh**: how significant a low-volume gap must be to display.
- **Number of Rows**, **Placement**, **Profile Width %**: shape each histogram's resolution and footprint.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What makes a naked Point of Control worth tracking?

A naked PoC is a high-volume price the market has not revisited since its profile formed. Because so much business was done there, the first return trip often produces a reaction, which is why the indicator can extend these levels until touched or crossed.

### How does this differ from a fixed-range profile?

The anchoring. Instead of sessions or hand-drawn ranges, profiles here are bounded by market structure itself, swing to swing, so each histogram describes one complete leg. The flagged gaps also pair well with [Liquidity Voids (FVG)](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/liquidity-voids-fvg/) for dedicated void tracking.

### Is Swing Volume Profiles free?

Yes. It lives in the free LuxAlgo Library, and it can be run and backtested in Quant, our coding agent, without leaving this page. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
