The Volume Sentiment Breakout Channels indicator identifies high-impact consolidation areas and quantifies buy/sell dominance within those zones to signal high-conviction market breakouts. By combining volatility-based channel detection with granular volume sentiment profiling, it allows traders to distinguish between standard technical breakouts and shifts in institutional conviction.

Usage

The script visualizes market phases by drawing dynamic boxes during periods of price compression. These boxes act as accumulation or distribution ranges.

  • Identifying Breakouts: When the price closes above or below the channel, a breakout signal (▲ or ▼) is triggered. Users can enable "Strong Closes Only" to require a significant portion of the candle body to close outside the range, filtering out false signals from wicks.
  • Reading Sentiment: The internal gradient map within the channel reflects volume participation. Green gradients indicate net-buying dominance, while red gradients indicate net-selling dominance.
  • Trend Extension: After a breakout, real-time trail lines extend from the channel boundaries to provide visual support or resistance levels for the emerging trend.

Details

The indicator operates on two primary logic layers:

  1. Volatility-Based Detection: It uses a normalization algorithm over a defined lookback period to locate price compression. These areas are then marked as dynamic channels.
  2. Volume Sentiment Profiling: The script divides each detected channel into vertical bins. Within these bins, volume is aggregated and signed based on candle direction. This creates a profile that reveals the internal bias of the range.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Normalization Length: The lookback period used for price normalization. Higher values result in more stable, significant channels, while lower values are more responsive to short-term volatility.
  • Box Detection Length: Determines the sensitivity of channel formation. Smaller values detect frequent, short-lived channels; larger values focus on major consolidation zones.
  • Overlap Channels: Toggle whether new channels can be created while an existing one is still active.
  • Strong Closes Only: Filters breakouts to require the majority of the candle body to close outside the box, reducing noise from price spikes.

Appearance

  • Bullish Colour: Sets the color for positive sentiment gradients, bullish breakout signals, and lower channel boundaries.
  • Bearish Colour: Sets the color for negative sentiment gradients, bearish breakout signals, and upper channel boundaries.
  • Neutral Colour: Sets the color used for equilibrium lines and neutral visual elements.

FAQ

How do I interpret the percentage in the box?

The percentage represents the "Current Sentiment" at the specific price level where the asset is trading. It is calculated by comparing the signed volume in the current price bin against the maximum volume intensity found within the entire channel.

What does "Overall Sentiment" mean?

This label aggregates the volume bias across the entire channel. It helps you understand if the consolidation phase is leaning more toward accumulation (Bullish) or distribution (Bearish) before the breakout occurs.
