# Targets For Overlay Indicators

Attaches automatic trade targets to any overlay source on your chart: one target type when price crosses over it, another when price crosses under, each with alerts for newly set and reached levels. Works with moving averages, bands, and trailing stops, while a dashboard reports how often each target type actually gets hit.

**Targets For Overlay Indicators** projects [profit targets](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/profit-target-taxonomy/) whenever price crosses an overlay you select, a dual-target design with one level for crossover events and another for crossunders. Point it at a moving average, a band, or a trailing stop, set the distance, and every cross produces an actionable level, with alerts covering both newly established and reached targets.

## How to Trade the Targets For Overlay Indicators?

- **Crossover target**: printed when price crosses over the source, framing take-profit placement for the move that follows.
- **Crossunder target**: the mirror level when price crosses under the source.
- **Support and resistance**: targets are horizontal, so they can act as support or resistance, and a decisive break through one may hint at an emerging trend.
- **Dashboard**: the top-right panel shows target counts plus reach rates for target 1, target 2, and overall.

Trailing stops such as volatility stops produce clean crosses, moving averages generate more frequent targets, and band-style tools are best covered by applying the indicator twice: crossover targets on the upper band, crossunder on the lower.

## Targets For Overlay Indicators Settings

- **Source**: the overlay series whose crosses with the closing price trigger targets.
- **Above Price Target**: places that target type above closes when enabled.
- **Wait Until Reached**: defers new targets until the current one is hit.
- **New Target When Reached**: spawns the next target the moment one resolves.
- **Evaluate Wicks**: uses highs and lows rather than closes to judge hits.
- **Target Distance From Price**: set in currencies, percentages, ATR, or ticks, with **Show Target Labels** and **Candle Coloring** handling presentation.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Which overlays work best with it?

Anything that crosses price cleanly. Trailing stops flip decisively, moving averages produce plentiful targets, and dual-output tools such as bands take two instances, one per line. Overlays that split a single level across multiple plots may not be compatible sources.

### Can one target be treated as entry and the other as exit?

They are flexible levels, so yes within reason: the crossover and crossunder targets are generated independently, and the reach-rate dashboard reports each side separately so you can judge whether either distance is doing its job before building rules around it.

### Where do I get it, and what if my source is not an overlay?

It ships free in the LuxAlgo Library, and this page can run or backtest it in Quant, our coding agent. For conditions between oscillators or any two arbitrary series, reach for [Targets For Many Indicators](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/targets-for-many-indicators/) instead. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
