# Trailing Peak Activity Level

Trailing Peak Activity Level is an indicator on [Vela](https://vela.luxalgo.com/chart), our next-generation charting platform, written in Pine Script®.

Marks the price of the session's highest-volume bar and trails it as a live level, updating when a new volume peak lands, with an optional ATR-scaled filter that ignores peaks too close to the level. The level turns green or red as peak activity migrates higher or lower, and a dashboard tracks the level and its volume. A lean alternative to a full profile for day traders who want one decisive line.

**Trailing Peak Activity Level** compresses the session's volume story into one decisive line: the price of the day's highest-volume bar, treated as a live [point of control](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/point-of-control/) that trails price while the session unfolds. An optional ATR-scaled filter blocks trivial updates: with Sensitivity raised above its default of 0, a new peak only replaces the old one when record volume arrives and price has displaced far enough, so the level holds steady instead of flickering. For day traders who find a full [volume profile](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/volume-profile/) heavier than the job requires, it keeps the single most meaningful level actionable.

## How to Trade the Trailing Peak Activity Level?

- **Price above the level**: the session's busiest price sits underneath. Treat it as data-driven intraday support and watch how dips into it are defended.
- **Price below the level**: rallies back into the level meet the day's heaviest positioning, a natural resistance and invalidation line.
- **Level steps up, plotted green**: the peak just shifted upward; participation is accepting higher prices.
- **Level steps down, plotted red**: the peak migrated lower; value is being repriced downward.
- **Dotted vertical line**: drawn only at a session start, linking the prior session's final level to the new session's starting level, green when the new level starts higher and red when lower.

Everything resets at the start of each new trading day, so every session opens with a clean read. The dashboard reports the current Peak Level and the session's Max Volume at a glance.

## Trailing Peak Activity Level Settings

- **Sensitivity**: the ATR multiplier defining how far price must displace before a new peak can print; raise it for fewer, more meaningful updates, lower it for faster response.
- **ATR Length**: the lookback for the Average True Range behind the volatility filter.
- **Dashboard, Position, Size**: toggle the info table and set its corner and scale.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why didn't the level move on that huge volume bar?

Two conditions must be met at once: the bar must set a new session volume record, and price must sit beyond the ATR-times-Sensitivity distance from the current level. If price hasn't displaced enough, the level deliberately stays put. That is the noise filter doing its job.

### When would I choose this over a full profile tool?

When you want one decisive level rather than a whole distribution. [Swing Volume Profiles](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/swing-volume-profiles/) map how volume spread across entire swings; this indicator keeps only the session's strongest price and makes it trail.

### How do I start using the Trailing Peak Activity Level?

It is free on the LuxAlgo Library. Add it to a chart in seconds, and from this page you can also load it into Quant, our coding agent, to test session logic around the level. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
