The RSI Swing Indicator v2 tool visualizes market structure by drawing swing points on the chart based on the intersection of price action and Relative Strength Index (RSI) extremes. This tool helps traders identify trend transitions and structural shifts by labeling higher highs, lower lows, and their respective counterparts.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze market trends. The indicator identifies swings by monitoring when the RSI enters overbought or oversold territory and tracking the subsequent price extremes.

Trend Analysis

The indicator provides automated labels to assist in identifying the current market trend:

  • HH (Higher High): Appears when the current swing high is higher than the previous swing high.
  • LH (Lower High): Appears when the current swing high is lower than the previous swing high.
  • LL (Lower Low): Appears when the current swing low is lower than the previous swing low.
  • HL (Higher Low): Appears when the current swing low is higher than the previous swing low.

By connecting these points with lines, the tool highlights the directional flow of the market. It is primarily used for trend analysis rather than as a standalone signal generator.

Details

The script operates by tracking states between RSI extremes. When the RSI enters an overbought zone (default > 70), the script begins tracking the highest price reached during that period. Conversely, when the RSI enters an oversold zone (default < 30), it tracks the lowest price.

A new swing line is initiated only when the state flips from oversold to overbought (or vice versa). During an active state, if price continues to make a new extreme while the RSI remains in the threshold zone, the script dynamically updates the label and line position to reflect the true peak or trough of that move. This ensures that the swing points accurately capture the exhaustion points defined by the RSI.

Settings

  • RSI Source: Determines the price data used to calculate the RSI (default is Close).
  • RSI Length: The lookback period used for the RSI calculation.
  • RSI Overbought: The threshold level above which the script identifies potential swing highs.
  • RSI Oversold: The threshold level below which the script identifies potential swing lows.

FAQ

How do I use the labels for trading? The labels (HH, HL, LH, LL) are designed for structural trend analysis. They help identify whether a market is in an uptrend (making higher highs and higher lows) or a downtrend (making lower highs and lower lows).

Why do the labels move sometimes? The labels move as long as the RSI remains in an extreme zone and the price continues to make a new high or low. This ensures the swing point is placed at the absolute peak or trough of the trend leg.
