Volume Forecasting

Volume Forecasting extrapolates the periodic behavior of trading volume to project activity several bars into the future: seasonality tooling pointed at participation instead of price. The chart is segmented into equidistant intervals, and each forecast reads the median of the bars occupying the same slot across the last N intervals, bracketed by the first and third quartiles. Comparing those historical forecasts against realized volume shows at a glance how faithfully a symbol follows its own rhythm.

How to Trade the Volume Forecasting?

  • Rising forecast: slots where the projection climbs mark windows where activity has historically escalated, a cue to time entries and exits around the extra liquidity.
  • Forecast vs. realized volume: a live print far above or below its projection flags a session behaving out of character.
  • Interquartile range: the band frames the statistical expectation for where volume should settle; prints outside it are genuine anomalies rather than noise.

Forecast quality tracks periodicity: the more pronounced a security's volume cycle, the more precise the projection. Alongside the rest of the time-and-seasonality tools, it answers when the market is likely to get busy, never which direction it will move.

Volume Forecasting Settings

  • Median Memory: the number of days feeding the median and quartile calculations. More memory steadies the forecast, less lets it adapt to recent cycles.
  • Forecast Window: how many bars ahead the projection extends.
  • Auto Forecast Window: sizes the window automatically so the forecast completes the current interval.
