# Volume Profile (Maps)

Volume Profile (Maps) accumulates volume against every price it printed at and draws the distribution split around the latest close. The two heaviest levels are flagged in red and orange as support and resistance candidates, while empty rows expose fast-moving, low-acceptance zones. Rounding and step controls coarsen the price grid to fit any symbol.

**Volume Profile (Maps)** builds [volume-by-price analysis](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/concept/volume-profile/) on a map structure: every price acts as a key, and each revisit adds that bar's volume to the total stored against it. The display centers on the most recent close and draws the accumulated distribution above and below it, flagging the highest- and second-highest-volume levels in red and orange as standing support and resistance candidates. Prices where little or nothing was stored (voids) mark zones the market moved through quickly.

## How to Trade the Volume Profile (Maps)?

- **Red and orange levels**: the two heaviest concentrations of traded volume, liquid zones where price tends to slow, stall, or react on a return visit.
- **Volume above vs. below the close**: the split shows which side of the current price hosts more prior business, framing where the nearest meaningful reference sits.
- **Voids**: near-empty rows often coincide with volatile, fast-moving stretches, poor places to count on a reaction.

## Volume Profile (Maps) Settings

- **Source** (default close): the price each bar's volume is keyed to; high, low, or open work as alternatives.
- **Volume & currency**: multiplies volume by price, keeping readings comparable on symbols with large price disparities across their history.
- **Amount of bars**: how much history feeds the profile. The display stays cleanest at 500 bars or fewer.
- **Max lines**: caps the drawn levels; combined visual elements top out at 1,000.
- **Round Function / Step**: two ways to coarsen the price grid. Rounding trims precision from raw prices, while a step snaps levels to fixed intervals (a step of 5 groups 1230, 1235, 1240).
- **Profile offset**: shifts the drawing up to 500 bars to the right of the last bar.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why round or step the price grid?

Without coarsening, every distinct price becomes its own row, which fragments the profile on finely priced symbols. Rounding or stepping merges neighboring prices into readable levels: heavier consolidation, clearer structure.

### How does it compare with other profile builds in the library?

This build keys volume to exact prices and splits the result around the latest close. If you would rather read the same distribution through a smoothed lens, the [Gaussian Volume Profile](https://www.luxalgo.com/library/indicator/gaussian-volume-profile/) is its natural sibling.

### How can I start using Volume Profile (Maps)?

Access is free via the LuxAlgo Library, and the indicator can be sent straight into Quant, our coding agent, from this page. You can also copy the source code from this page and run it anywhere Pine Script® runs.
