The Profitable Contrarian scalping indicator provides a specialized trading framework designed to capitalize on mean reversion opportunities during high-volatility conditions on lower timeframes.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying contrarian entry points when traditional trend-following signals typically lag. While standard moving average crossovers often suggest trend continuation, this tool operates on the premise that price is ready to reverse by the time these lagging signals occur on fast-moving charts.

  • Long Entry: Occurs when the short-term VWMA crosses under the long-term VWMA.
  • Short Entry: Occurs when the short-term VWMA crosses over the long-term VWMA.
  • Exits: Positions are closed when the short-term VWMA crosses the "Stop length" VWMA in the opposite direction of the entry.

This script is optimized specifically for the 1-minute chart on highly liquid assets such as SPY, TQQQ, TSLA, AMZN, and major cryptocurrencies.

Details

The indicator utilizes Volume Weighted Moving Averages (VWMA) applied to a smoothed version of the closing price (5-period SMA). This dual-layer smoothing process aims to filter out minor market noise while retaining the volume-weighted significance of price action.

The core logic reverses the traditional interpretation of crossovers. In highly volatile environments, a fast VWMA crossing a slow VWMA often marks an exhaustion point rather than a breakout. By taking the opposite side of the lagging signal, the strategy attempts to capture the immediate reversal or "scalp" back toward the mean.

Settings

  • Length 1: Sets the period for the primary fast VWMA used for signal generation.
  • Length 2: Sets the period for the baseline long-term VWMA.
  • Stop length: Sets the period for the exit VWMA, determining how quickly the strategy closes a position during a retracement.
