Opening Range, Initial Balance, Opening Price
Nov 22, 2022

The Opening Range, Initial Balance, Opening Price indicator provides a comprehensive toolkit for identifying key intraday support and resistance levels based on early session price action.
Usage
The tool can be used to visualize critical price levels established during the first minutes of the trading day. These levels often act as significant hurdles or foundations for the remainder of the session. Traders can use the Opening Range (OR) and Initial Balance (IB) to identify potential breakout zones or mean reversion targets.
The levels feature dynamic coloring based on the current market price:
- Green: Indicates the closing price is above the level, suggesting bullish sentiment relative to that benchmark.
- Red: Indicates the closing price is below the level, suggesting bearish sentiment relative to that benchmark.
Details
The script focuses on three main concepts:
- Opening Price: The initial price at which the asset began trading for the session.
- Opening Range (OR): Defined as the high and low established during a specific early period (commonly the first 30 minutes).
- Initial Balance (IB): Derived from Market Profile/TPO concepts, this represents the price range during the first hour of regular trading hours (two 30-minute periods).
These levels are calculated based on user-defined session strings and timezones, ensuring they align with specific market opens like the NYSE.
Settings
- UTC (+/-): Adjusts the timezone offset to match your local or exchange time (e.g., -4 for New York).
- Use Exchange Timezone: When enabled, uses the instrument's exchange timezone instead of the manual offset.
- Opening Range Session: Defines the time window for calculating the OR (default is 0930-1000).
- Initial Balance Session: Defines the time window for calculating the IB (default is 0930-1030).
