The Volume Surge Breakout + TP/SL indicator identifies strong momentum moves driven by sudden increases in trading volume and decisive price action to provide a complete breakout trading solution. By combining volume analysis with candle strength, it detects market shifts out of short-term balance and automatically projects entry levels, Stop Loss, and up to three Take Profit targets.

Usage

The indicator identifies "momentum zones" based on specific volume and price conditions. When a candle closes outside of these zones, a breakout signal is triggered.

  • Momentum Zones: Green (bullish) or red (bearish) boxes appear when volume exceeds its average and candle size increases. These boxes extend until a breakout occurs.
  • Trade Signals: Small triangles (green for long, red for short) indicate a valid breakout from the zone.
  • Automatic Targets: Upon a breakout, the tool plots an entry line, a Stop Loss (SL), and up to three Take Profit (TP) levels. These levels remain active until either the SL or the furthest TP is reached.
  • Volume Multiplier: Optional labels show how many times the current volume is greater than the average (e.g., 2.35x), helping users gauge the strength of the impulse.

Details

The script operates on the principle that significant market moves are often preceded by high participation. It requires three conditions for a signal:

  1. Volume Filter: Current volume must be higher than the Simple Moving Average (SMA) of volume multiplied by a user-defined threshold.
  2. Body Multiplier: The current candle body must be significantly larger than the previous one to ensure price movement is not just "noise."
  3. Directional Confirmation: The price must close in favor of the impulse (higher for bullish, lower for bearish).

Settings

Volume + Delta

  • Volume SMA Length: The lookback period used to calculate the average volume.
  • Volume Threshold (× SMA): The multiplier applied to the Volume SMA to define a "surge."
  • Body multiplier vs prev candle: The required ratio of the current candle body relative to the previous candle body.

TP/SL

  • SL = ATR × instead of %: Toggle between using Average True Range (ATR) or a fixed percentage for Stop Loss calculation.
  • ATR Period/Multiplier: Configures the ATR-based Stop Loss volatility parameters.
  • SL % from entry: Defines the Stop Loss distance if the percentage mode is selected.
  • TP1/TP2/TP3 RR: Sets the Risk-to-Reward ratios for the three Take Profit targets.

FAQ

How do I use the breakout signals?

Signals are best used in alignment with the broader market trend. For example, look for bullish breakouts during an established uptrend on higher timeframes.

Can I use this on any instrument?

The indicator is designed for markets with real volume data, such as stocks, futures, and most crypto pairs. It may be less reliable on CFD indices where volume data is simulated.
