MTF Break of Structure(BOS) & Market Structure Shift(MSS)
Aug 11, 2023

The MTF Break of Structure(BOS) & Market Structure Shift(MSS) indicator identifies multi-timeframe market structure transitions by plotting breaks and shifts across up to three independent timeframes.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to perform top-down analysis by tracking structural changes on multiple timeframes simultaneously.
- Top-Down Analysis: Users can track structure on three distinct timeframes (e.g., 15m, 1H, and 4H) to identify trend alignment.
- Structural Labels: The tool automatically identifies and labels Higher Highs (HH), Higher Lows (HL), Lower Lows (LL), and Lower Highs (LH) based on the specified swing length.
- BOS vs. MSS: Break of Structure (BOS) indicates trend continuation, while Market Structure Shift (MSS) highlights potential reversals.
- Confirmation Logic: Users can choose between using candle wick extremes (High/Low) or candle Closes to validate structural breaks.
- Filtering: To maintain a clean workspace, the "Show Structure only on a lower Timeframe" setting prevents higher timeframe charts from being cluttered with lower timeframe data.
Details
The script utilizes pivot point logic determined by a user-defined swing length to establish structural peaks and troughs. For each timeframe, the indicator tracks the most recent valid high and low.
A Break of Structure (BOS) occurs when the price continues in the direction of the established trend by breaking the previous swing high (in an uptrend) or swing low (in a downtrend). A Market Structure Shift (MSS) occurs when the price breaks the counter-swing (e.g., breaking a Higher Low in an uptrend), signaling a shift in market sentiment. The script allows for high customization of visual outputs, including line styles (solid, dashed, dotted) and independent color schemes for each timeframe.

How do I adjust the sensitivity of the market structure? You can adjust the "Swing Length" in the settings for each timeframe. A higher value will identify more significant, long-term pivots, while a lower value will capture more frequent, short-term structural changes.
Can I use this for scalping and swing trading? Yes, because the indicator supports up to three independent timeframes, you can configure it for scalping (e.g., 1m, 5m, 15m) or swing trading (e.g., 1H, 4H, Daily).
