External Signals Strategy Tester v5
May 2, 2025

The External Signals Strategy Tester v5 indicator is a universal back-testing tool that allows users to evaluate external buy/sell signals with advanced money management and risk modules. It is designed to work with any input series, including other indicators or higher-time-frame conditions, providing a comprehensive environment for strategy optimization.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on how to integrate external data and configure the trade engine for various market scenarios.
Core Workflow
- Signal Integration: Use the "Buy Signal" and "Sell Signal" inputs to link external series. Any value crossing above 0 is treated as a trade trigger.
- Time Filtering: Restrict testing to specific periods using the Start and End Date inputs to avoid historical anomalies or focus on specific market regimes.
- Trade Management: Enable or disable Long and Short directions independently. Users can choose between simply closing a position on an opposite signal or reversing the trade direction (flipping).
Risk Management Modules
- Fixed Percentage Block: Apply classic Take-Profit (TP), Stop-Loss (SL), and Break-Even (BE) levels based on a fixed percentage from the entry price.
- Fibonacci Bollinger Bands (FBB): This module generates dynamic envelopes based on various moving average types (VWMA, HMA, SMA, etc.) and ATR-scaled Fibonacci levels. These lines serve as dynamic targets or trailing stops.
Details
The script operates on a modular logic where each exit component can be toggled independently. Upon a trade entry, the script activates the specific Long or Short module, ensuring that calculations for Stop-Loss and multi-stage Take-Profits are isolated to the active trade direction.
The Fibonacci Bollinger Bands utilize a dynamic multiplier calculated from the ratio of current ATR to a historical ATR, allowing the bands to expand or contract based on volatility trends. When "Trailing" is enabled for FBB exits, the script re-evaluates the exit price on every bar, updating the strategy orders accordingly. The classic percentage-based exits are processed in parallel and generally take priority if triggered simultaneously.
Settings
- Date Range: Sets the start and end timestamps for the back-test.
- Buy/Sell Signal: Input sources for the external entry conditions.
- Trade Settings: Master switches for enabling long/short trades and defining reaction to counter-signals.
- Risk %: Configures fixed percentage-based TP, SL, and Break-Even levels.
- Fibo Bands: Settings for the FBB overlay, including length, source, basis type (VWMA, HMA, etc.), and visual style.
- FBB LONG/SHORT SL & TP: Detailed sub-menus for setting up to 3 take-profits and a stop-loss using specific Fibonacci levels. Includes options for volume percentage to close at each target and trailing functionality.
