The Multi Range VWAP Pivots indicator identifies key institutional support and resistance levels by plotting volume-weighted averages between a selected timeframe's high/low range and the standard VWAP. It provides traders with a multi-layered view of mean reversion points and potential price exhaustion zones.

Usage

The tool is primarily used to identify areas where price might revert to its mean or find significant pivot points within a specific timeframe's range.

  • Mean Reversion: When price extends beyond the plotted averages during a breakout, traders look for signs of exhaustion. If the price fails to sustain the breakout and returns within the average bands, it often indicates a reversion toward the central VWAP line.
  • Support and Resistance: The upper averages (calculated from the Range High) act as dynamic resistance, while the lower averages (calculated from the Range Low) act as dynamic support.
  • Trend Confirmation: Trading above or below the central VWAP, combined with the orientation of the surrounding averages, can help determine the current trend bias for the selected timeframe.

Note: This indicator utilizes lookahead functionality to anchor its calculations to the period's ultimate high and low. As such, it is designed for visual analysis and identifying historical pivot zones rather than direct backtesting or real-time alerts.

Details

The script functions by capturing the high and low of a user-defined timeframe (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, etc.) using request.security. It then calculates a standard Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP).

The "Pivots" are created by calculating various mathematical averages between the VWAP and the high/low extremes:

  • Level 1: Average of VWAP and Range High/Low.
  • Level 2: Average of Level 1 and Range High/Low.
  • Level 3: Average of VWAP and Level 1.

This creates a band-like structure that visualizes the distribution of value between the absolute extremes and the volume-weighted mean.

Settings

  • Timeframe: Determines the period used to calculate the Range High, Range Low, and VWAP (Options: D, W, M, 6M, 12M).
  • Show Averages: Toggles the visibility of the three calculated high and low average pivot lines.
  • Show H/L Range: Toggles the visibility of the absolute high and low price levels for the selected timeframe.

FAQ

How do I interpret the different average lines?

The lines closest to the Range High/Low represent deeper exhaustion points, while lines closer to the central VWAP represent initial areas of interest for mean reversion.

Why do the lines change when the timeframe ends?

Because the indicator uses the final High and Low of the period to calculate the averages, the lines "repaint" to reflect the actual range extremes once they are established.
