The BB Order Blocks indicator utilizes Bollinger Band extremities to identify and project key areas of support and resistance as potential order blocks. By tracking the highest and lowest levels of the bands over a specific lookback period, this tool helps traders visualize significant institutional supply and demand zones where price action is likely to react.

Usage

The BB Order Blocks indicator is primarily used to identify reversal or exhaustion zones in the market. When the price enters a red zone (upper order block), it suggests a potential resistance area where selling pressure may increase. Conversely, when the price enters a green zone (lower order block), it indicates a potential support area where buying interest might be found.

Traders can use this tool to:

  • Identify Reversal Points: Look for price action signals (like candles or divergences) when the price touches the projected OB levels.
  • Set Take Profit/Stop Loss: Use the levels as logical targets or as areas to place protective stops.
  • Trend Confirmation: Observe if the price consistently breaks through levels or respects them to gauge market strength.

The indicator offers flexibility by allowing users to toggle between "Solid OB only" (which only plots confirmed, stable levels) or all calculated levels.

Details

The script functions by calculating standard Bollinger Bands and then determining the highest "Upper" band and lowest "Lower" band over a defined lookback range.

  • Dynamic Range: If the price volatility causes the Bollinger Bands to reach new extremes, the script updates the OB levels. If the lookback range expires without new extremes, the script stops plotting until new significant levels are established.
  • Zone Construction: The "Order Block" zones are created by calculating a primary level and a secondary "offset" level (using a slightly higher standard deviation), creating a visual channel of interest rather than a single line.

Settings

Bollinger Bands

  • Bollinger Band Length: Determines the period for the SMA and standard deviation calculation. Settings like 20, 50, 100, or 200 are commonly used for different timeframe perspectives.
  • Band Source: The price source used for the calculation (default is Close).
  • Band StdDev: The multiplier for the standard deviation. Increasing this to 3.0 can help identify more significant "tail" events or key exhaustion levels.

Order Block

  • Lookback Length: Defines the number of bars used to find the highest and lowest band points. A longer lookback (e.g., 100 or 200) identifies more significant historical levels.

Plots

  • Plot Bollinger Bands: Toggles the visibility of the underlying Bollinger Bands and basis line.
  • Plot OB Levels: Toggles the visibility of the red (Sell) and green (Buy) order block zones.
  • Plot Solid OB only: When enabled, the indicator only plots levels that have remained stable (unchanged) from the previous bar, filtering out some of the "noise" during rapid band expansion.

FAQ

How do I interpret the red and green zones? The red zones represent areas of historical resistance derived from the upper Bollinger Band, while green zones represent areas of historical support derived from the lower Bollinger Band.

Which timeframes work best with this indicator? BB Order Blocks is versatile and can be used on any timeframe; however, higher timeframes (1H, 4H, Daily) typically provide more robust support and resistance levels.
