The Strategy: HMA 50 + Supertrend Sniper indicator is a trend-following tool designed to identify high-probability entries by seeking confluence between momentum and volatility-based filters. By combining the low-lag properties of the Hull Moving Average (HMA) with the structural support/resistance of the Supertrend, the script aims to filter out market noise and capture significant price movements.

Usage

The strategy functions by enforcing strict agreement between two primary components. When both components align, a signal is generated; when they disagree, the market is classified as "Choppy," signaling a neutral stance.

  • Long Entry: Triggered when the HMA is rising (positive slope) and the price action is above the Supertrend line (indicating an uptrend).
  • Short Entry: Triggered when the HMA is falling (negative slope) and the price action is below the Supertrend line (indicating a downtrend).
  • Choppy Zone (Neutral): If the HMA and Supertrend provide conflicting directional signals, the indicator paints the candles and HMA line gray. Users can toggle an option to automatically close positions when this state occurs to preserve capital during indecisive market phases.

Visual cues are provided to simplify interpretation:

  • Green Cross (+): Indicates a Long entry signal.
  • Red Cross (X): Indicates a Short entry signal.
  • Thick HMA Line: Changes color (Green, Red, or Gray) to reflect the current confluence state.
  • Thin Step Line: Represents the Supertrend, which can serve as a dynamic trailing stop-loss.

Details

This tool leverages the Hull Moving Average (HMA) specifically to address the lag issues found in traditional moving averages like the SMA or EMA. While the HMA is responsive, it can be prone to whipsaws in sideways markets. To mitigate this, the strategy incorporates the Supertrend, an Average True Range (ATR) based indicator that defines trend boundaries based on volatility.

The integration ensures that trades are only initiated when the speed of HMA momentum is confirmed by the volatility-based trend floor/ceiling of the Supertrend.

Settings

HMA Settings

  • HMA Length (Trend): Sets the period for the Hull Moving Average calculation. The default is 50, suitable for mid-term trend detection.

Supertrend Settings

  • ATR Period: The lookback period used for calculating the Average True Range.
  • ATR Multiplier: Determines the distance of the Supertrend line from the price; a higher value creates a wider margin for volatility.

Strategy Settings

  • Exit when Choppy?: When enabled, the strategy will automatically close all open positions if the HMA and Supertrend enter a state of disagreement.
  • Use Date Filter: Allows the user to restrict strategy execution to a specific timeframe.
  • Start Date / End Date: Defines the window for the date filter.
