Trading Price Action
May 29, 2019

The Trading Price Action indicator provides a comprehensive toolkit for identifying swing points, price action channels (PAC), and breakout/breakdown levels to help traders analyze market structure and trend momentum.
Usage
The Trading Price Action tool can be used to identify key structural pivots and potential trend continuation zones. It marks swing highs and lows with circles on the chart, providing clear visual references for support and resistance. Traders can use the integrated Price Action Channel (PAC), which consists of EMA-based bands (High, Low, and Close), to determine the current trend direction and potential areas of value.
Breakout and breakdown signals are generated when price closes decisively above a prior swing high or below a prior swing low. These events are highlighted on the chart to signal potential shifts in market structure or the continuation of a prevailing trend.
Details
The script utilizes a specific 5-bar fractal logic to identify swing points, looking for a peak or trough relative to two bars on either side (with a 2-bar offset for confirmation). The Price Action Channel (PAC) is constructed using three Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) based on the high, low, and close prices over a user-defined lookback period.
The breakout logic tracks the most recent valid swing levels and triggers an alert and visual marker when the price action confirms a move beyond these structural boundaries. This combination of trend-following (PAC) and structural analysis (Swing points) allows for a multi-layered approach to price action trading.
Settings
- High Low channel Length: Determines the period used for calculating the EMA-based Price Action Channel (PAC). A higher value creates a smoother, slower-reacting channel.
FAQ
How do I use the PAC for trend identification?
When price is trading above the PAC, it generally indicates a bullish trend, while trading below the PAC suggests a bearish trend. The channel itself can act as dynamic support or resistance.
What do the circles on the chart represent?
Circles that appear with a 2-bar offset represent identified swing highs and lows. Circles that appear on the current price action represent confirmed breakouts above or breakdowns below those previous swing levels.
