MACD 4C
Mar 28, 2015

The MACD 4C tool provides a visually enhanced momentum histogram that uses a four-color coding system to identify both the direction of the trend and the strength of current price momentum.
Usage
The Usage of the MACD 4C focuses on interpreting the histogram's color shifts to anticipate trend reversals or continuations. Users can monitor four distinct states:
- Strong Green: Occurs when the MACD is above the zero line and rising, indicating strong bullish momentum.
- Weak Green: Occurs when the MACD is above the zero line but falling, suggesting that bullish momentum is exhausting.
- Strong Red: Occurs when the MACD is below the zero line and falling, indicating strong bearish momentum.
- Weak Red: Occurs when the MACD is below the zero line but rising, suggesting that bearish momentum is fading.
Traders often use the transition from strong to weak colors as an early signal of a potential trend slowdown before a zero-line crossover occurs. Additionally, the script includes built-in alerts for zero-line crossovers to notify users of a change in the primary trend direction.
Details
The MACD 4C is based on the classic Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) formula, which measures the relationship between two exponential moving averages (EMAs) of an asset's price. While standard MACD indicators often focus on the crossover of the MACD line and a signal line, this version emphasizes the histogram's slope.
The script calculates the difference between the Fast moving average and the Slow moving average. By comparing the current MACD value to the previous bar's value, the script determines whether momentum is accelerating or decelerating. This logic is applied to both positive and negative territories, resulting in the four-color visual representation.
Settings
- Fast moving average: Defines the lookback period for the faster EMA used in the MACD calculation (Default: 12).
- Slow moving average: Defines the lookback period for the slower EMA used in the MACD calculation (Default: 26).
FAQ
How do I interpret the color changes in the MACD 4C? A shift from Strong Green to Weak Green indicates that while the trend is still bullish, the upward momentum is slowing down. Conversely, a shift from Strong Red to Weak Red indicates that bearish pressure is diminishing.
What are the default values for this indicator? The script uses the standard MACD settings of 12 for the fast length and 26 for the slow length, though these can be adjusted to suit different timeframes or trading styles.
