Advanced Buy/Sell Signals
Mar 22, 2018

The Advanced Buy/Sell Signals indicator is a comprehensive technical analysis tool that combines trend-following logic and momentum oscillators to identify potential market reversal points. It aims to provide clear visual cues for entry and exit by filtering price action through Bollinger Bands and a custom MACD-based momentum calculation.
Usage
The tool can be used to identify trend shifts and momentum breakouts. The "Buy" and "Sell" arrows appear on the chart when specific price and momentum conditions align:
- Buy Signals: Triggered when the current price and MACD momentum both increase relative to their previous states, following a sequence of bearish or neutral bars.
- Sell Signals: Triggered when the current price and MACD momentum both decrease relative to their previous states, following a sequence of bullish or neutral bars.
The Bollinger Bands provide additional context for volatility and price extremes. Users can look for signals occurring near the upper or lower bands for higher probability setups. Additionally, the tool features "Track Marks" (Today's and Yesterday's Line) which project recent price and momentum averages forward to visualize current trend strength.
Details
The script integrates two primary components:
- Bollinger Bands: Standard SMA-based bands used to define the volatility range of the asset.
- Momentum Logic: A custom calculation derived from an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of the Typical Price (HLC3). It calculates a MACD line and a Signal line, using the resulting histogram to determine "Neutral", "Buy", or "Sell" momentum states.
The signal logic is path-dependent, meaning it looks back up to 6 bars to ensure a "Buy" signal only triggers after a prior "Sell" or neutral period, preventing repetitive signals during consolidation.
Settings
- BB Length: Sets the lookback period for the Bollinger Bands calculation.
- Source: Determines the price data (e.g., Close, Open, HL2) used for the Bollinger Bands.
- BB Multiplier: Adjusts the standard deviation multiplier to widen or narrow the Bollinger Bands.
