The Intelligent Currency Breakout Channel indicator is an advanced technical analysis tool designed to identify periods of price consolidation and signal potential breakouts. It automatically draws channels around ranging price action and utilizes sophisticated volume analysis to provide deeper insights into market sentiment.

Usage

The indicator identifies periods of low volatility and automatically draws a containing channel (box) around the price action. This signifies that the market is in a consolidation or ranging phase.

Traders can observe the volume bars inside the channel to gauge strength. An increase in volume as the price approaches the channel's upper or lower boundary can foreshadow a potential breakout. A bullish breakout signal (▲) appears when the price closes above the channel's upper boundary, while a bearish breakout signal (▼) appears when it closes below the lower boundary.

For higher-quality signals, users can enable the "Strong Closes Only" option, which filters out signals where only a wick has crossed the boundary. The integrated sentiment gauge and trend screener provide additional confluence for trade decisions.

Details

The script uses several specialized components for its execution:

  • Automatic Channel Detection: Uses volatility-based normalization to detect ranging price action.
  • Volume Analysis: Plots volume as candlestick-like bars within the channel, offering three modes: Total Volume, Buy/Sell Comparison, and Volume Delta.
  • Sentiment Gauge: A dynamic color-graded gauge visualizes current volume delta momentum relative to its recent range.
  • Logarithmic Regression Screener: Determines the underlying trend direction (Up, Down, or Neutral) to filter signals.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Overlap Channels: Allows multiple channels to be drawn simultaneously if enabled.
  • Strong Closes Only: Requires the midpoint of the candle body to be outside the channel to trigger a breakout.
  • Normalization Length: Lookback period used for price normalization.
  • Box Detection Length: Lookback period used to detect the channel formation pattern.

Volume Analysis

  • Show Volume Analysis: Toggles the visibility of the volume bars.
  • Volume Display Mode: Choose between Total Volume, Buy/Sell Comparison, or Delta.
  • Volume Delta Timeframe Source: Sets the timeframe for sourcing volume data for calculations.
  • Volume Scaling: Adjusts the vertical size of volume bars relative to the channel.

Screener Settings

  • Lookback Period: Number of bars for the logarithmic regression calculation.
  • Screener Type: Choose between Log Regression Channel or Logarithmic Regression for trend determination.

FAQ

How do I use the volume analysis inside the box?

The volume bars help you see if buying or selling pressure is building before a breakout occurs. High delta or comparison volume near a boundary often indicates a higher probability of a successful breakout.

What is the benefit of the Log Regression Screener?

It helps you stay on the right side of the primary trend. For example, you can choose to only take bullish breakouts when the screener indicates an "Up" trend.
