The RSI + EMA + MTF Stop-Loss indicator provides a multi-timeframe perspective on market momentum and direction by combining an RSI with noise reduction and multiple smoothed averages. This tool aims to help traders identify short and long-term trend shifts while offering a flexible guide for stop-loss placement or trend identification.

Usage

The indicator can be used to gauge trend strength and potential reversals across various time horizons without the need for traditional request.security calls.

  • Directional Bias: The main RSI line features a "No-Hesitation" logic that reduces noise. When this line turns green and rises, it suggests a bullish short-term trend; when it turns red and falls, it suggests a bearish trend.
  • Multi-Timeframe Confirmation: Several smoothed moving averages (SMAs) based on different MTF-equivalent RSI calculations are plotted. When these lines are positioned below the main RSI line, they typically confirm bullish momentum.
  • Stop-Loss and Trend Guide: The tool includes an independent MTF RSI average that can be adjusted via the "Length of Non-Fixed MTF" setting. This line serves as a flexible guide for trailing stop-losses or identifying broader market direction.
  • Background Shading: The background color provides a quick visual cue of the aggregate trend based on the user's selected "Independent MA for Guide" mode.

Details

The script utilizes a custom RSI function that emulates multi-timeframe behavior by adjusting the lookback and change calculations relative to the current bar. The "No-Hesitation" EMA logic is applied to the primary RSI to filter out minor fluctuations that don't meet a specific "hesitation" threshold, resulting in a cleaner trend signal. Furthermore, a SuperSmoother filter is applied to the various MTF RSI outputs to provide a high-quality, low-lag signal for trend identification.

Settings

  • Display RSI/MA colors: Toggles the background shading based on trend conditions.
  • Lookback of RSI: Determines the length used for the RSI calculation.
  • EMA Hesitation to ignore: Sets the threshold for the noise-reduction logic; higher values make the primary RSI line more reactive only to significant moves.
  • Use Independent MA for Guide: Configures the logic for background coloring (Yes, No, or RSI only).
  • Length of Non-Fixed MTF (for extra trend): Adjusts the timeframe multiplier for the independent trailing guide line.

FAQ

How do I interpret the different line colors?

The primary thick line represents the noise-reduced RSI. Green indicates an upward trend, while red indicates a downward trend. The thinner lines represent smoothed RSI values across different timeframes.

What is the "Hesitation" setting?

The hesitation setting acts as a filter. It prevents the trend direction from flipping until the RSI has moved a certain distance, helping to avoid whipsaws in sideways markets.
