The Stoch+RSI With Color Combination indicator is a momentum-based tool that integrates Stochastic and Relative Strength Index (RSI) calculations to help traders identify trend reversals and exhaustion points.

Usage

The indicator combines two popular momentum oscillators to provide a clearer picture of market conditions. By plotting both the RSI and the Stochastic %D line, users can look for intersections and divergences to gauge price action.

  • Divergence: Observe differences between the oscillator peaks/valleys and the price action to identify potential trend reversals.
  • Overbought/Oversold: Use the highlighted 70-80 (Overbought) and 20-30 (Oversold) zones to identify areas where price might be stretched.
  • Crossovers: Monitor the interaction between the RSI line and the Stochastic %D line. An RSI crossing above the %D line can signal bullish momentum, while a cross under can suggest bearish momentum.
  • Breakouts: Use the level breaches of the key bands (80, 70, 30, 20) to confirm momentum breakouts or support and resistance zones.

Details

The script calculates a smoothed Stochastic %D based on a user-defined K length, D length, and smoothing period. Simultaneously, it calculates a standard RSI based on a selected source and length.

The visual layout includes highlighted background zones for clarity:

  • The area between 70 and 80 is filled with red to represent the upper extreme (Overbought).
  • The area between 20 and 30 is filled with green to represent the lower extreme (Oversold).

Alerts are integrated into the script to notify users whenever the RSI crosses over or under the Stochastic %D line, aiding in timely decision-making.

Settings

  • K: The lookback period for the Stochastic calculation.
  • D: The period for the moving average applied to the Stochastic K (forming the %D line).
  • Smooth: The smoothing period applied to the initial Stochastic calculation.
  • Length: The period used for the RSI calculation.
  • Source: The price source (e.g., Close, Open, High, Low) used for the RSI calculation.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored zones? The red zone (70-80) indicates the asset is entering an overbought state, while the green zone (20-30) indicates it is entering an oversold state.

How do the alerts work? The script triggers an alert when the RSI line crosses the Stochastic %D line, which can be configured for "Once Per Bar Close" to avoid false signals during active price movement.
